A Must Have for New Parents! The search ends here.

Background: My wife and I are first time parent of a (now 4-month-old) baby boy. Up until recently we have been using a Vtech video monitor in combination with a separate Vtech audio monitor. My theory was to have a separate audio monitor because we "˜only' want to turn on the video monitor when we hear noises or want to see what is happening. To-date this has been a great way to monitor, however, we did notice that the Vtech took a while to connect to each time we opened the app, and the camera had ZERO ability to monitor vitals. Sometimes we could see him on camera but we could not see his breathing which was a little disconcerting at times. The bottom line is we decided we wanted a system that would monitor vitals and sleeping, all of which the Miku camera does without any additional attachments. The other options required strapping monitoring devices on our son, which we didn't want to do.
Pro's of Miku: Extremely professional and clean packaging. Very easy to setup and easy to follow instructions. Ultra-modern looking, Apple like"¦ Easy to use app. Being able to see your baby is breathing "at a glace" makes this system worth it's weight in gold "“ absolutely priceless! In our case, we can click on the app at any time to check on our boy for piece of mind, and especially if we hear a noise or peep coming from his room. Occasionally we will just leave the app open on our phones and continue to monitor him during the first part of his sleeping. We love how the system is able to alert us when he has moved, awake, or sleeping. It's like a video nanny watching over him which is so awesome. Another pro is the ability to review his sleep analytics night after night. So far this looks to be rather accurate and another huge benefit we didn't have with our basic camera. If the ability to monitor vitals and sleep patterns is important to you, this is the camera you want, period.
Con's of Miku: No zoom capability. Average resolution at best. Instructions ask you to mount the camera incredibly low as compared to where you can mount other camera systems with zoom. No movement availability, meaning you cannot remotely change camera angles (however, this probably would contradict the benefits of the vital monitoring if your camera wasn't always pointed perfectly at the crib). The app reports "movement" activity every few minutes under "activity", which is confusing to us. We can check many of the "movement" reports and we don't see him moving. Perhaps this is part of the vital monitoring, but I believe Miku needs to make an update to this portion "“ it's confusing more than helpful.
Final notes: Even if your intention if to have a moveable and zooming camera at some point when your child is older, this is the ONLY way to go for the first year or two of their life. The piece of mind you get knowing that you baby is healthy, breathing well, and sleeping soundly makes this investment an absolute must-have for all new parents.
Totally worth it for us.

Being a first time parent really freaked me out and the fact that our daughter was a premie made me even more crazy nervous. We overthought every little thing! And probably went overboard on some of the crap, (Note to future parents: you don't need a baby wipe warmer or specialty hospital gown). But one of the things I really like that we purchased is our Miku Monitor. Even though the price tag was a little higher because it has all of the extra safety bells and whistles, I am super happy with it. I read the reviews and knew basically what to expect, but it's doing a ton more than what we originally bought it for.
At first, we weren't using it when our daughter was in our bedroom, but when it was time to move her into the nursery it really calmed my nerves down. Mentally that move was a hard adjustment at first, but we wanted our daughter to start sleeping in the nursery (that I painstakingly painted twice getting the "right" shade of pink... apparently, there are wrong shades of pink out there!). When setting Miku up, I found out our operating system was not up to date, so I contacted their customer service - which for me was super easy and the person I spoke to totally understood they were talking to a new parent who didn't need anything more overwhelming in their life that day. After putting up the camera, the simple act of seeing our kid breathe was so reassuring in ways we had no idea would take a ton of stress out of our daily life. Now we just need to work on getting out of her room to show her off so she, (and we) can get some sleep!

If you are worried about breathing issues with your baby or want to monitor their breathing or other stuff in real-time, Miku has made a great product that is totally working for us. It's overall a good monitor and we are super happy. JH
This is probably the best baby monitor

OK, so you have a bundle of joy on the way. CONGRATS!! You are now trying to figure out what to do to monitor the little bugger, yes? Well, let me help!

The Miku is the system you should purchase. There are others, but they are either under-featured or over-gimmicky.

It's not perfect. In fact, there's some things that really irritate about it, but it does its general job very well.

GOOD - Fairly quality camera. Shoots night vision very well, color does okay. Connects to WIFI without much trouble (you do need a 2.4mhz band, which you probably have, but some day that might be phased out). It transmits audio and video to your device anywhere, which is nice if you have to walk a long way to your mailbox. The app also does a great job of recording video of movement events (it appears they have this going back to when I installed it, which you typically have to pay for in home monitoring) and the actual color graph of sleep/movement/awake is really accurate and helpful. You can "talk" through it, take pictures, have ambient noises, and generally always watch your baby.

BAD - You might need proprietary equipment to have it in more than one place. They sell a stand-up stand and cord, but they were out of it around Christmas time and it was waaaaay too expensive for a cord. They also have some features that DO NOT WORK. And those features can really give you the idea that this thing doesn't work well. For instance- breathing tracking. It doesn't work. It shows an EKG graph when no one is in the crib! That's really, really bad. The associated alerts and alarms for lack of movement DO NOT WORK. Turn them off, they will just give you white hair. Finally, it's a bit tricky to share the feed on multiple devices- you have to create a code for them from deep in the app, then transfer that code to additional devices. Not terribly intuitive, but we solved it within a few minutes.

OK, with that out of the way, here's what you've got: A great baby monitor that streams to your phone. This means you have to have either your regular phone or an older one (I use an older one) plugged in by the bed. It can also transmit sound if you turn your screen off, which is nice to have it in your pocket.

What you don't have is a magical device that analyses your baby's chest to measure its breathing and heart beat. IT SHOULD NEVER CLAIM TO DO THIS. We almost sent it back when we saw how poorly these features worked. But the alternative is another gimmicky device where you have your baby wear a special sleep sack or sock. If this is your first child that sounds alright, but trust me- you will NOT be able or willing to put that on after every single 3-hour-interval feeding or changing. It just isn't practical and you won't use it (after that first week when you feel obligated to).

So, with that stuff out of the way, the Miku does great job at just transmitting video and audio to your phone. The app has some cool analytics and some excellent historical video (you'll want to know how she got upside down or left-right at some point, and the auto video recordings will solve those little mysteries).

It's a bit expensive. It has features that they should immediately delete and forget about (unless they can program them correctly). They want to nickel-and-dime you if you want to take it on vacation or have a second location (I set up another cord in the bedroom for that first month, and just transferred the camera head to where she's sleeping that night). But it does its job and it does it well. If you have that spare phone or two (we have on on the couch almost always on monitor), this is the unit you should get.

4 out of 5 points for Ravenclaw.
Best Baby Monitor Available!

This monitor is unreal! As a former Motorola baby monitor owner, this device is hands down light years ahead of any baby monitor out there. Our previous monitor was working well up for about a year with our daughter, until a few months ago - the video monitor would no longer connect to the camera (even though we were only about 25 feet away from our daughter's room and crib), and the app that paired with the camera would consistently crash throughout the night, causing a lot of anxiety. I tried working with the support team but they could not figure out a proper solution.

Insert our lifesaver - the Miku Smart Baby Monitor. First of all, the packaging is absolutely amazing. Super sleek, easy-to-identify boxes labeled for your convenience, and everything you need to get set up is included in the box (except for a pencil). Set up was very simple and took about 20 minutes, followed by getting the monitor set up on my WiFi and Android app paired, which then updated the firmware immediately (this took about an hour).

We've now had this monitor up and running for a week, and couldn't be happier with the outcome. Alerts can be set up when the baby is or is not active - I personally have those turned off as our little human moves quite a bit throughout the night, but it will also track your baby's breathing and their heart rate, along with accurate temperature readings with humidity levels as well. These are all things that no other baby monitor combined can provide, especially not without adding something you have to attach to your baby. I love having the ability to pull up the camera on my phone from wherever, but the only thing I will say is make sure your battery is fully charged or you have a charger available - it takes quite a bit of juice to run.

I've only experienced one night when the app crashed, but I typically get up at least once a night and always check the monitor during that time, so not a concern to me. Otherwise, the app will consistently try to connect to the camera as long as your WiFi connection is strong. We do have a WiFi extender up on our top floor where the bedrooms are located as our modem and router are in the basement, which I think definitely helps with the signal.

Overall I would highly recommend this baby monitor to anyone who is doing research and has questions on what monitor to buy. Completely worth the investment in my opinion!
Just the Product We've Been Looking For!

I am very impressed with this company and monitor. I have a friend who loved the monitor, said it helped save her child's life during a medical emergency. Instantly, I knew I needed it. I had questions, which were quickly answered on Facebook by their customer service team. I was very happy that the product shipped quickly, arriving the day after I ordered it. The packaging was impressive and they provide everything you need to set the monitor up. I really like the sleek design of the monitor, as it doesn't overpower or look to gaudy in our little one's room.
I am that over-paranoid parent who's constantly getting up in the middle of the night to check (or waking up my poor husband to go check) if the baby is breathing. There are so many worries that constantly float through my mind. The Miku monitor helps to put me at ease. I no longer have to wake up to verify that my baby is indeed breathing, because my monitor tells me. I get so much more sleep thanks to this monitor putting my mind at ease every night and get so much more done during naps without having to constantly stop, just to check on the baby.
The picture quality is great. Very clear and, depending on which setting you have it on, in color. The system provides the temperature and humidity in the room, which I love because our bedrooms tend to dramatically fluctuate in temperature throughout the night. There is a sound function, which we use often as our little one is particularly soothed by the 'womb' sound. I love that we can check in from our phone if we are ever away - or not having to carry around an extra gadget when walking around the house, although I do wish it had a bluetooth function for times when wi-fi isn't available or fails) and the option of purchasing a monitor, even if at an extra cost for nighttime use (currently just using an old iPhone).
It will also grow with us as the baby grows. The alarm function will also be very handy when our little one (who is now only 2 months) is old enough to crawl out of their crib, as you are rapidly notified when no movement / heart rate is detected. When reviewing the 'Activity' logs, I saw that it takes / keeps videos of your child's activity, which I also find to be very beneficial, as you can look back and see what they were up to when moving around in the middle of the night. When they are so small, they obviously can't be up to much, but, as they grow older, I think it will also be beneficial to see if they were simply squirming around in their sleep or sitting up and active.
I would absolutely recommend this monitor to others.
