My child loves the MIRA food jar and has carried it to school almost every day since we purchased it three weeks ago. We have only used it for hot foods and have not tried cold foods or beverages in it. We have filled it with soup, pasta dishes, and other foods which have maintained their temperatures until school lunch is served at 12:30 pm. (Allowing hot water to sit in the MIRA approximately 10 minutes before filling it with food really helps maintain hot/warm temperature for at least 5 hours).
It can be difficult for small hands to open so be sure not to twist the lid on too tightly. Although it came with its own spoon, we use plastic or utensils from home. That just seems easier and less time consuming than having to unfold/fold a spoon. As far as leaks are concerned, we've put soup in it twice and the lunch box came home clean - no leaks. Also, I place a cold pack in the lunch box for food items that need to stay cool. The cold pack does not affect the temperature of foods inside the MIRA which is great. The outside of the jar does not get hot nor does it sweat. My overall rating would be a 4.5 stars. It's "JUST RIGHT" for my elementary school student.

Used this for two days so far. My soup at lunchtime was not so hot that it would burn my mouth. I'm OK with that. The fold-up spoon snapped into the lid is both silly and kind of handy. Also the lid itself is a hollow compartment for a separate ingredient- think Parmesan for your soup. That's a nice touch. And probably part of the reason why this thermos doesn't get the very best reviews for heat retention. I like the simplicity of the design, both visually and functionally.
If you are trying to keep something hot until tomorrow, the Mira is probably not the best choice. But for an elegant, inexpensive lunch thermos, it's excellent.
