I wanted to find an easier way to make friendship bracelets fast, and found this! Ordered on a whim. Unfortunately mine arrived broken, but it seemed to not be super important and I really wanted to try it out, so I did. Later I superglued the broken piece on and it's going strong.
If you gift this to someone, I can't see how it wouldn't become trash after a week. You can only make a few bracelets with the string it comes with, and replacement packs are as much as the starter kit with the machine. I actually bought this to wind my own (better) thread to make higher quality bracelets. It works!
After you use up the nylon cord the machine comes with, you can respool by hand with whatever you want. I chose the traditional embroidery thread. It worked perfectly.
One thing I would say is that you need to follow the instructions exactly, and don't force it if you have a jam. I've been lucky enough to have no issues, so know if it's not working, something is wrong and needs to be fixed before you break the machine.

This toy took a few tries for me to get correct! I was frustrated but the videos helped. I was intrigued to see if you could replace the string with embroidery floss. It does work but makes a thinner bracelet. The string they provide is very slippery which can make it hard to work with. Also the clasp/ sticker system makes measuring the bracelet tricky. I also feel like the sticker will wear out causing the bracelet to unravel.

This was a fun gadget for making bracelets but the downside was that you ran out of thread quickly. Unless I missed it, would be nice to buy large replacement spools of thread to wind on and reuse the small spools used for this making bracelets.
