This is not soft. It is very stiff so that though it is shown with the handles in the pockets you would likely get cut trying to get the handles into or out of the pockets. Putting the cutting end of your tool into the pocket means they will easily slip out if you don't keep the pouch flat since the pockets are not deep enough to accommodate any part of the wooden part of the handle.
Great for carving knives.
