The shells are great they have nice soft texture and the kit comes with black hardware (right joy-con) to match in the video I just decided to use different hardware for the left side (the original Nintendo blue JoyCon hardware). But the paint or coat comes off with use, it's a shame you have to cover them with a protecting shell (I used silver glitter soft shell if anyone is wondering, bought them on Amazon too). If you know what you're doing unlike me.. these are good just have to be careful putting it all together because you can brake something on the motherboard inside the controller like I did (right Joy-con; only two lights flashing and other multiplayer issues caused) would buy again now that I have the protecting cover for them, but since I'm the only one who sees the controllers I'm saving my money.

I ordered this product in Matcha Green as well as a separate listing by the same company for the button replacements (also in Matcha Green) because I didn't like the buttons included in this listing. If there is a listing for just the joycon shells without buttons, I didn't see it.

Taking apart my joycons was actually pretty easy for me, but it was a bit time-consuming. I'd only recommend this project for folks who don't mind being very patient and have steady hands for tiny fiddly stuff. So please keep this in mind before ordering, and check out the videos on Youtube that demonstrate the process. I would recommend starting with the right joycon, as it is the most difficult. By the time I got to the left joycon, I was actually having fun and it was a breeze from there. Overall it took a couple of hours to do. Have a small dish handy for the screws and have the video tutorials in front of you. And as other reviewers have mentioned, consider purchasing a separate screwdriver as the tools provided in this kit are not great in quality.

As for final results, I'm pleased with how the controllers look. The matte finish is very satisfying. However, it does feel prone to scratches, so I might consider buying a clear plastic protective case in the future. The buttons all work as they should, BUT, the L/R and ZL/ZR buttons feel less springy than the original buttons. I am not sure if this is an issue with the housing, the springs, or the replacement buttons themselves. It does not affect my play but this did bother my partner who is a little more sensitive to that. I do plan on tackling shell replacement on my Pro controller next, but because of the issue with the shoulder buttons, I might hold off on the button replacement for now.

Took me almost an hour to put together, but definitely worth it.

One thing I will say is do not put pressure on the sticks when you are screwing everything back together. Holding it in your hand is the way to go. I did that and broke mine. Thankfully I had an extra joycon and was able to switch the parts.

I found this to be a fun little project for a rainy day and finished it in under 2 hours. For those nervous about doing this to your Switch; you should be fine if you've done an IKEA set before or something similar with screwdrivers.
The look of my Switch has been elevated and I adore the color change, it fits me a lot better.
Overall, the set was great but I highly recommend getting a small tweezer set as it was a bit difficult with some of the screws to place in certain spots. I've taken a star off for the screwdriver set provided in the kit. There is no magnetized end. Having one would've saved me half an hour which was spent trying to adjust screws into the little holes.

i loved these new shells, the color is beautiful and the texture is really nice, however i did realize something that is going to mean i have to swap the shells again. i had absolutely no issue with instillation and the quality of the shells, until three weeks ago when i dyed my hair. the shells seem to absorb the oils in my
skin, which must have absorbed some color after dying my hair, ultimately the shells became stained in the colors i dyed my hair where my hands cupped the joycons, and ruined the soft yellow color. i tried to use rubbing alcohol and acetone to remove the stains as those will remove hair dye stains from most surfaces but alas it did not work. the buttons didn't stain, which is odd to me, just the shells, but either way i'll have to buy new shells and probably some kind of clear hard shell case to create a barrier between my hands and the shells so this doesn't happen again.
