I ordered the medium size in black for my 14-year old son (and me-shhhh). The size is good for him, the material feels like high quality and it has the deeper sound quality that one likes from the spoons. We watched the videos on how to play them and found that it was easy to get pretty good at them, though we are not as good as the guy who demonstrates them in the video, obviously. I love the sound it makes and it's kind of addicting to play around with. My son took the spoons in to school to show his band teacher and he was really impressed with them. It's such a fun and unique gift to give. I highly recommend them.

I love instruments and buy a new one every year or so. I have harmonicas, a sax, a trumpet, an orcarina, a guitar, a piano, and some other woodwinds. This is the first percussion instrument I've owned though I've played drums and have some practice pads and sticks.
It didn't take more than a couple minutes to learn several ways to but I've yet to reach the end in variations of play.
It be thing that I was surprised about is the volume. It takes great care to play these softly. The videos didn't make it sound like they were so loud. I started at what I thought would be very gentle levels but the sound echoed thought the entire floor of the house. I've learned that if you want to play quietly it takes an extremely soft touch. But the other side is nice, playing with a band is easy. The sound is bright and can cut through the noise with little effort.

Hey, for the same amount of going out to eat with my spouse ONE time, he and I can both have endless fun playing these spoons. They're super simple to learn cuz the online instructions are clear and spot on. And the construction is top rate; solid and smooth. We bought a medium blue one. Perfect! I do think the large one would be too long since we both have normal size.hands.
