I free handed it and have never done this before. I know yeast eat sugar so I put warm water in a bowl, poured the yeast into it, then poured some white sugar into it. Waited a few days and it smelled like alcohol. Put it in a bottle in the fridge for a day or so. Just drank it for the first time. Pleasant flavor and I'm drunk. Overall very fun, easy, and inexpensive. I enjoyed the experience

Although a teeny pricey per package, this is still a good way to sample different yeasts for making one's own wine. To be honest my sense of taste isn't refined enough to tell one from another; I think I would have to make five identical batches using each yeast to even hope to discern the different flavors. I do enjoy the yellow "Champagne" version quite a bit; it tends to form a slightly bubbly beverage-- an aspect that I enjoy. I would recommend this as a trial, then picking ones favorite (or two or three) and then buying those in less expensive bulk form.
