I purchased this to cut sunbrella canvas for a boat enclosure and other materials. This prevents the thread raveling versus cutting with scissors. When cutting multiple layers, it is required to go slower to be able to go through the multiple layers while sealing all threads.
When i received the package (see picture) the case was missing a latch, the seller sent me a replacement latch the following week after i reported it when the seller reached out regarding my satisfaction with the product.
The product does what I had intended to use it for and works well.

This heats really quickly and I like the adjustable temperature. I would have given it 5 stars if it had a pointed replacement tip.
This thing works!

I've had a little experience with this kind of tool, albeit long ago, and usually they were either not very effective or hard to use. This puppy is anything but that! So far I've only needed it to cut a 1/2 inch nylon line and a 1/4 inch elastic cord, but it cut though both like, well, the proverbial hot knife. Nice tool!
Hands down the best MYOG hot cut for synthetic fabrics I found
tried it✓ Verified Purchase•July 23, 2023
i MYOG outdoor gear and can't say enough good about this cutter, at least compared to everything else I've tried.
Hot cutting is critical, especially for home production, to keep the synthetics from fraying. It can also just be a heck of a lot easier for certain cuts. I've used this cutter on about 40 yards of cuts so far, and it's been instantly better than the previous solutions I tried that were based on soldering irons.
It heats up in seconds, and the analog temperature adjustments seems consistent, and precise enough to get relatively smoke-free cuts.
I've used the bottom knife guide exclusively. This has allowed me to not have to cut on cardboard. If I just tip the unit up slightly, I can even cut directly on a plastic workbench.
The only improvement I would make is some sort of "outfeed" separator, which would keep the two cut pieces apart behind the cut, like a table saw riving knife. Thin materials requires some finger contortions to keep them from bunching behind the knife near edges, and thicker materials can stay hot enough after the knife to bond back together slightly. Not even remotely a deal killer, as this is SO much better than everything else I've used, but noted for completeness.
