We literally went through 5 or 6 coffee urns before settling on this one. It's almost impossible to find reviews anywhere specifically for noise levels on these machines...so you're forced to just order the and give them a try. Most of what you'll find will be identical models all made in China just with different names and maybe a different aesthetic to the item. Again, they're all the same and many are junk.

We'll see how this lasts but here's what we really like -
1) Totally different and modern design...no other urn available looks like this.
2) It's dead quiet - yeah it makes some low level noise when heating up like they all do, but once it turns over to keep-warm, this blows every other urn away at how quiet it is. No "tickety-tik" noises like all the others.
3) More than enough capacity
4) Safe to touch - you can touch any part of the urn other than the metal on top, without burning your hand.
5) Price - all of these urns are overpriced for what they are. However given all of the above, this is right in line with the others.

What we don't like -
1) Warranty is only 1 year
2) No water level indicator to see what's left...but then again, is it so disturbing to open the top lid and check?
3) They really flubbed the design by making the spigot too low...no way you're fitting anything other than a standard coffee mug.
4) Pursuant to #3 above, the drip tray is a nice idea but when extended, it further reduced that clearance to fill a mug.

Altogether it's near the best choice for a coffee urn in this category. The question is, how long will it last?

It takes around 23 minutes to make a full pot of coffee, which I believe is 30 cups made sturdy, well worth the money

Okay, this urn is just the right size for what I need and seems to do the job. I only use it occasionally for dinner parties so the size is perfect. However I knocked off one star because the outside of the pot (silver part) gets very hot. I wrapped a tea towel around it and secured it in the back with a binder clip, because I brushed my arm over it at one point and even though I was careful, I could have burned myself.

Pros: It's smallish and fits on a countertop, and didn't want an industrial monster. Brewing was reasonably fast; about 25 mins to brew 24 cups. I used a candy thermometer to check the temperature of the coffee. It was a consistent 150 degrees F out of the spigot.

Cons: It feels a bit cheap... There is no coffee level window to judge how much is left in the tank. The top doesn't completely seal; it just turns locks on at the sides. If it got knocked over, I think would probably spill. As I mentioned, the tank gets hot on the exterior metal parts. If I buy another one, it will be worth the extra money for a cool-touch exterior.

I just got this 3 days ago and have made 3 pots of coffee so far.
I burnt my tongue on the very first sip of coffee because it was so hot.
It takes about 30 minutes for my large mug of coffee to cool down until I can drink it safely without burning my tongue.
I really like the percolator because it keeps recirculating the water over the grounds making the coffee stronger while using less actual coffee grounds.
You know when the coffee is done because it stops percolating.
There is a groove on the bottom of the inside of the percolator so if any grounds get through the basket, they will settle in this section and won't pour out the spout.
It keeps the coffee extremely hot as long as you have it plugged in and coffee in it. It doesn't burn the coffee like a regular coffee maker will do.
I would of given it a 5 rating but the lid does not lock in place as described on Amazon's page. It just turns into a slot and can easily come off and if tipped over, it will still leak even with the lid in place. The lid is also not heat resistant as described on the Amazon page. The lid is just plastic and the coffee is percolated up against it so when the coffee is hot, the lid gets hot.
If you accidentally knock it over, DON'T try to grab it because you will burn yourself since the only spot that doesn't get hot is the base. Even the plastic handles get pretty warm.
The spout works really well but since it is really low, you have to slide the percolator close to the edge of the counter to get a large cup under the spout. This may be hard to do because the plug cord is somewhat short so you need a electrical outlet close to where you want to pour your coffee. It is just long enough to do this on a standard kitchen counter (from the back edge of the counter to the front edge of the counter). However, doing this, you truly take a chance of knocking it over onto yourself and having extremely hot coffee leaking out on you since the lid does not lock into place and still leaks even when in place and tipped over!
3 things would truly make this a GREAT percolator:
1. give it taller legs so you can get large coffee mugs under the spout without having to slide the percolator close to the edge of the counter.
2. Actually make the lid lock with some kind of stop so it clicks into place.
3. Make the lid insulated so it doesn't get hot from the coffee percolating up against it.
You can't make it truly spill proof because the heat and steam would build up inside and make the lid explode off unless you make some kind of pressure release in the lid.
I would still recommend this percolator because I really do like it, but I would also warm people of the hazards of it being extremely hot.
