I started a keto/low-carb diet using the urinalysis test strips and discovered that they are not all that accurate, and your readings are also very dependent on whether you're dehydrated or not, how much water you're drinking, how long ago you ate, etc. There's also a delay between when you eat/what your blood levels are and when the ketones will show up in your urine (kidney processing time). So the urinanalysis strips only give you a ballpark and not a true estimate of how your body is reacting in real time or to particular foods.

I've used this meter to discover what foods I can and can't eat and how many carbs a day I can tolerate and still stay in the fat burning mode.

A meter that reads your blood ketone level is essential if you're serious about going keto or losing weight, because everbody's body is different in terms of how many carbs you can eat and stay in ketosis. A meter like this gives you a really fast and accurate reading of whether you're staying in ketosis, and whether certain foods are more likely to kick you out of ketosis or drop your levels due to how your body reacts to that particular food.

Using this meter, I discovered that certain foods that are touted as 'low carb' or having fewer net carbs (like some supposed high protein low carb bars or cookies) kicked me right out of ketosis, so they were not good products to eat since I want to lose weight, even though they are marketed as for low carb dieters.

I highly recommend this meter, though the strips are expensive (they are for all brands). You can use it more in the beginning to learn what your body will and won't tolerate and whether you're in that optimal range of 1.5 - 3.0 mmol needed for weight loss based on what you eat and how much.

I use it now to do a once a day check, and if I am trying some new food I haven't before and want to know whether it will kick me out of ketosis or not.

One caution is the strips tend to stick together, so if you have trouble inserting the strip into the meter, make sure that you're not trying to push two in that are stuck together. They're about $1 apiece for the strips, so you don't want to waste any!

easy to use seems accurate

We only test once in awhile for ketosis stability. So it doesn't cost too much. But every test strip is $1 when purchased in quantity. Seems too much.

Very useful to keep on top of your ketone levels. I've found it to be accurate. The strips are a bit costly.

I was so nervous to try this and I'm so glad I went ahead and ordered. Doesn't hurt at all!! Kind of fun actually. I watched a YouTube video of a similar product; the ketoBM Plus and that helped me figure it out. Much better than peeing on a strip!
