I have two large ironing boards and find this to work well with both a regular heavy duty steam iron as well as a gravity iron. I will say that it's a little disheartening when first put on to see the wrinkles, but they quickly smooth out after a couple of uses and ironing the cover itself.
I use silicone rests for the gravity iron since it doesn't stand vertically. It has lightly scorched the pad in a couple of places where it was placed directly on the cover for too long but so far so good. The last cover I had got burned through to padding after the iron was repeatedly left on the cover by accident. It had a long useful life so was very happy with. I use the other ironing board with this cover as well and use as a working surface for everything from computer work to assembling craft projects and repairing clothes. It is stain resistant and heat resistant -- though my small project iron does get pretty hot and I am careful to use a silicone rest for it so it won't scorch since it's not always stable in vertical position.
