Getting rid of monkeys. Thrilled

So far I have used the scanner to scan about 1000 pictures in 2 evenings It is pretty easy to use and to tell the truth it is so far exactly what I wanted. I have probably 5000 to go and I expect it to keep going. The hard part will be organization once they are scanned. There are so far only a couple of concerns 1. Sometimes I scan a photo and the photo reduces and part of the photo area then is black, like down one side. I can scan it again and it scans fine. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. 2. I bought this package with a 32gb flash drive. I don't think I got this. 3. When calibrating at the beginning my sheet got damaged, can I get another or will this only need to be done once? 4. I am concerned that I will be unable to edit pictures once I have saved them. This is the warning given, why? When I am scanning I just want to scan and later organize.
So far I am not only happy with the scanner but thrilled with it. If It lasts through my picture project I will write another review but right now thank you so much. These pictures have been a monkey on my back worried how to give them to all the people I love.
