One of the best sponge filters

Loved the first one so much I bought 3 more for my other tanks. What sets this filter apart from most other sponge filters is the media compartment underneath the sponges. Water is pulled through the sponges and over the media before exiting out the top. The included media is fine for added bio-filtration, but you can also use something else if you want such as Seachem's Denitrate for added assistance with keeping your nitrate levels under control.
If I were going to nitpick about something with this filter, I'd say the bubbles that come out are still rather large. They aren't massive by any means, but bubbles the size that an air stone would put out would be much better as the larger bubbles make a mess when they pop and splash water outside the tank. Not that big of a deal if you have a lid that covers the entire surface of your tank, but if you don't have a lid or your lid doesn't cover the entire surface, the small splashes when the bubbles pop can be annoying.

I added it to my 20 gallon long, in addition to a HOB filter, because i was having ammonia and nitrite issues. This helped quite quickly- it holds a good Amount of filter media with the balls and the sponges. Easy to assemble and install!
I'm picky about hiding my filtration in my tank, i am particular about my aquascaping. This is a bit bulky and harder to hide, if it was a bit more flat, that would make it easier to hide.
Overall i would recommend it!

Was looking for a filter I could sanitize instead of buying cartridges and just throwing them out afterwards. This is the perfect solution. At first, I was not sure it was filtering using the sponges but surely after a couple of days I can see a small amount of material building. My only complaint is that I do not think it puts as much O2 in the water as a normal filter but that may be due to my pump size. This was a simple fix bc I had an extra airstone and pump anyway. I am purchasing another because I think this will be PERFECT for my beta tank. Mine did come with the extra sponges and both suction cups. It will be 5 star for my beta tank but I'm giving it four due to the 02 levels falling in my 29 gal community tank.
