Bought this because we have 2 new kittens. They're slippery little buggers. And faster than me. And of course they have a fascination with the toilet paper rolls. Since we mounted this we haven't had any more issues finding an empty roll and a puddle of toilet paper on the floor.

My cat loves to eat toilet paper. She seems to think it's a mouse body or something. She especially loves sinking her teeth into it, which almost acts like a staple, keeping the toilet paper from ever unrolling properly again.
As such, I've looked for ways to stop her. The cat box is in the bathroom, so I can't lock her out. I can remove the toilet paper whenever it is not in use, but no one else in the house ever bothers doing that. This sort of toilet paper protector device was my last hope.
The good: It HAS stopped her. She no longer chews on the toilet paper rolls. I know some reviews say it didn't work for their cat, but it worked for mine, probably because she's really lazy. You can also rest a phone or something on it, which I guess is mildly useful.
Also, I already have a nice toilet paper holder. This was the only protector that I found that has a removable toilet paper roll holder. I removed it and just use the protector part of it with my own holder.
The bad:
The included hardware did not work well. Even when the anchor was tight in the wall, the screw just turns forever and never expands the anchor. I think the screws are the wrong size or something. I had to use a wall anchor kit that I already owned.
Also, it's pretty ugly and loud when used. It looks like something you'd find in a public bathroom or something. I personally don't really care, but my wife is not a huge fan. She is happy that the cat leaves the toilet paper alone now, so she tolerates it. Maybe someday the cat will give up her fascination with TP and we'll be able to remove it.
Overall, it's a necessary evil in our house. It could be prettier, but it's at least functional.
