Versatile

This is my first recording device as I have been doing our podcast and videos with the onboard mic. So I broke down and made this purchase, and I'm very pleased with how well it performs. Certainly does a lot of things that I am not trained on. However, the documentation is easy to read, and there are plenty of online videos to answer questions that you might have. I ran multiple Mics and had actually no problems. One thing I've learned is that if you lose audio did you have a real problem. So this provided me with the ability to do redundancy which I learn is important fortunately, the easy way.
GAME CHANGER

I only just got the Zoom F6 a short time ago and so my review here is based on first impressions. The unit is shockingly small and if you are used to the standard size mixers you will almost be disappointed in how small this is. The unit is VERY light as well, making it well suited for field recording or mobile recording. Construction seems to be durable, but, the layout and compactness of this unit almost seem unnecessary. The gain knobs are tightly packed together, which is not a bad thing, just a bit tight. The menu buttons are even smaller but do not hinder operation. The forgiving grace about the whole thing is the recorder's 32bit float feature which makes clipping mostly a thing of the past. As a first-generation unit, Zoom has taken bold steps to answer the future needs of recordists out there. Did they hit the nail on the head? time will tell. As for any recommendation as to if you should buy it? Consider not having to set gain or worry about clipping or low floor noise in a recorder that can be powered in three different ways and with six inputs. Disappointed that this unit does not have an out via XLR or ¼ inch. The ⅛ is functional but not sturdy or professional grade. Had Zoom made the body slightly wider they could have staggered the knobs and allowed room in the chassis to put in better connections, like SDI time-code, Line Out options and a second card slot. Maybe on the MKii? I have had the privilege to work with all kinds of expensive and legendary equipment, this is by far the best value for the price and the 32-bit float will be magical for newbies and pro's alike. Gave it a four-star because there is room to improve this unit, but it may very well be a legend in the making.
Great field recorder, some of the inputs are a bit noisy

I love the F6. I upgraded from the F3, which I wish had a third input and would be a perfect device. I highly recommend the F6 and the ability to do live mixing and be protected against clipping with 32-bit audio. If you need more than 2 inputs, get this device.

Only complaint is that some of the inputs on the right-hand side are a bit noisy. According to some reviews online, this could be because of the circuitry for the headphone jack.
Versatile recorder in a class of its own

I use the F6 to record music - piano, church organ, various instruments, and voice, either solo or as ensembles. The recordings are done under less than studio conditions in a church. The advantages of the F6 that suit this type of recording are:
1. Versatility: This recorder is small, highly portable, and unobtrusive, yet has a very powerful feature set reviewed in several youtube videos which should be checked out before purchase.
2. Quality. The recorder is obviously built to high standards of construction - metal parts mostly.
3. Thoughtful design: menus are clear and easily adjustable on a bright screen. The F6 battery power options include the AA batteries also used in the Zoom H6, but unlike the H6, an L-type battery can also be used, allowing greatly extended recording times.
4. Recording: The 32 bit float recording of this recorder allows me to easily capture the wide dynamic range of all the instruments and voices I record. Trained voices - especially soprano - are extremely powerful and are difficult to record with accompaniment when you want to bring out the accompanists performance. With the F6 I just set the gain to full and then back off the dynamics in post during mixing without clipping or loss of the sound.
5. Ease of use: Bluetooth control is a huge advantage for this recorder. It is simple to set up and allows full remote control of recording. This function allows me to remain in one spot in charge of all audio and video recording. Essentially I can do all of the recording process without assistance.
The F6 is of course much more expensive than the very popular Zoom H6, which I also own and use for other types of recording. For the reasons given above, the F6 is the better choice for the kind of music recording I do.
Exceptional dynamic range

Fantastic product for field recording with high resolution and low noise. The mic preamps are outstanding for a device in this price range. It handles high end microphones very well (I've been using a variety of Neumann mics and each sounds as good as it does in the studio.
