I'm one of those people who can turn a seemingly simple task into a project. When the "kitchen queen" started complaining about the speed control on her Kitchen-aid stand mixer not working correctly and commenting on how the mixer was several years old and time for a new one - I took a look at the mixer. It looked great physically because she takes excellent care of her appliances. So I decided to try to fix it.

I watched several You-Tube videos about replacing the speed control, ordered this replacement part and re-watched the videos. The part came in today and less than 30 minutes later we have a perfectly functioning mixer. The replacement did have a slightly different layout for the electrical connections (as had been commented on one video) but careful reading of labels on the circuit board was all that was required.

The replacement did not come with a knob but one of the videos or comments that I had read gave an answer of heating the old knob enough to loosen it and it came off with a gentle but persistent tug.
Perfect replacement for my 2007 6-quart model

There was a thing once where the gasket on the gear box leaked lubricant inside of the mixer, and it got all over the board. I managed to clean it off (also replaced the gasket and grease), and it worked again for nine years, until it didn't. I put a multi-meter on the output of the board, and it read zero. The input was still getting 120V in.

This replacement board looks different on the surface than what I had (see photo, new on the left, old on the right), but it fits as expected, and it has the exact same terminals on it, just in slightly different places. Match them up to the old one, and you're golden. What I received was a genuine Whirlpool part, and the plastic nub on the switch was there, unlike some of the previous reviews.
Very easy to change.Works like a charm.

The speed lever was so stiff I could hardly move it and the speeds were fussy about changing. Sometimes the mixer would not turn on or off. I found other problems when I opened the mixer. The transmission box was cracked and a worn gear or two. With help of easy to find videos on line I took the gears apart, cleaned them up, replaced them, regressed the machine and replaced the transmission cover. All that took some time to do. Not bad though. When this part arrived it took less than 10 minutes to open it up again and swap out the parts. The lever now glides smoothly and speeds change beautifully. Runs like a new machine.
No knob

Works fine, but no knob. 7 pictures of this "exact replacement" none show the front side where the knob is. The original from kitchenaid comes with a knob. No where does it say knob not included. They frequently crack off.
KitchenAid 600 professional speed controller

My mixer wasn't turning on, and then when I could get it to turn on it on it would only go at two speeds. I figured out that the speed controller was the problem. I paid $41 for it, which is a great price. My 10 year old and I fixed it in about 10 minutes. Label everything, especially the little white plugs, because it's all configured differently on the new one. Also the plug on the top left was different for mine, but I figured it out.

Before you plug it in to test it make sure the lever is set to 0/off. The mixer will not turn on if it is set to anything else.
