A tool with many uses

This test stand is well-made and a valuable addition to any model railroader's tool chest. I have used the test stand to 'run in' locomotives - a task it does easily. More frequently I have found the stand to be excellent for cleaning locomotive wheels. I start by putting the locomotive upside-down in a foam holder. With the locomotive upside-down, I place the rollers such that they make contact with each wheel. [Placing a book on each end adds a bit of down-pressure...just don't add too much weight.] Attach some electrical alligator clips from the layout's rails (or a spare power pack). Turn up the voltage. The loco's wheels will spin and you can easily use your favorite cleaning solution (mine is Inox), with a Q-tip or small piece of cotton cloth, and your wheels will be clean. Of note is the fact that this method can be used to clean the BACK of the wheels (where some loco's get their power). Oh, my layout is strictly DCC so I run wires directly from a convenient siding to the test stand.

Does what it says on the box and very well too. It does come from China so expect a long delivery time but it arrived well packed and in excellent condition. I have a small shelf layout and this is great for breaking in new locos and giving all of my locos some run time, something that I was never able to do before I got this handy unit. The only awkward thing is supplying power but I used jumpers (from the track to the bars on the unit) using alligator clips for that. Easy to set up and does fine with diesels and works with my 4-4-2 and 2-8-0 even though an axle or 2 is unsupported. Anything more you'll have to order additional rollers which you can get
