So disappointing. I really needed plates, I saw these and thought they would match with my other matte black bowls and appliances. But NOPE! These reflect some weird grey, brown and even green colour. They are shiny. They're an odd black colour. Now, the plates themselves are very nice. Nice shape, sturdy and overall beautiful. But if you're looking for MATTE BLACK or even normal black. These are NOT the plates for you.
Portion size seems normal to me. But if you're the type to overeat, fill up your plate to the max. These will definitely be too small.
The MATTE BLACK description needs to be removed from this items. It's false advertising. Also, wasting people's time, having to purchase and return. Otherwise, very nice plates.

These are nice sized pasta bowls - I am replacing huge ones and this size is far more realistic. These are perfect for a dinner and dessert as we. The finish is nice - nothing too porous and they clean up really well in the dishwasher.

I love the Matt black. I was worried they would be too small to be useful (I like huge salads and generous servings "” even though I should cut back) and I thought the slightly oval shape would be difficult to find a place for in the cupboard. Well no problem on both counts.
Because it is a shallow dish, it holds a lot of snack (actually almost too much if you should cut back) and surprisingly holds a full entree very attractively. It stacks nicely where I used to keep sandwich plates "” who needs them? These are superior. Now we use these for everything: round plates are just too clumsy.

Really wanted to return these because I felt they were smaller than I wanted but then I realized my issue with the ones I currently had was that they were too big. Kept them and really enjoy using them everyday for all sorts of meals/foods.
