Really, really good projector
Chris Dolan✓ Verified Purchase•August 17, 2023
Let me start with the negatives. First, this thing is on sale all the time so I would not pay full price for it. Even on sale, it is too expensive for 720p. Also, I wish I would have spent a little more to get a brighter projector.
Speaking of brightness, even though I wish it were brighter, I am surprised by how well you can see the image with ambient light. It's not necessarily enjoyable, but you can watch something with this indoors with the lights on.
Size is the biggest virtue here. It's easy to take anywhere. Easy to find a place to set it up. However, there is no lens cover so I'm compelled to keep it in its case, which adds additional cost and negates much of the size advantage. There is only one official case for it and it is a square that is much larger than the projector itself.
The other great thing is the speaker. To me it is perfect for taking a minimal setup with us to the garage or on trips. It's not audiophile quality nor does it provide a cinematic experience, but it is better than it has any right to be considering the form factor. Also, it is easy to connect to a Bluetooth speaker.
I almost sent this back to exchange for a Nebula Cosmos, but my daughter was already in love with this. The size is great, the performance is great for the size. I wish I could have compared it to the Cosmos and the Xgimi Mogo Pro or even the Mars Pro before purchasing.
This thing has brought a lot of joy to my daughter and me, especially since we can't make it to the theater for the foreseeable future. So in that regard it has been worth every penny.

Love my new Capsule Max

I don't typically write reviews but we've been having so much fun with this so far that I figured it was worth it. After researching a bunch of smaller projectors, I eventually bought the Capsule Max because of the positive reviews, better resolution (720p) vs. other ones (480p) I was looking at and a solid look. After using it for about a week, we have no regrets... picture quality, ease of use and build quality all seem top notch.
Because of the shelter at home order, I wanted to put up a little movie theater for the family in the backyard while we hang out in the hot tub at night (I'll post pictures soon if I can figure that out). Set up was super easy and we were up and running in minutes. Things got even better after a firmware upgrade - almost all of my favorite apps were available including Plex, Netflix and MoviesAnywhere. Streaming Netflix and MoviesAnywhere from outside over WiFi worked great. Plex was a little slower connecting to my media server though, but still good enough. I figured I'd be playing movies on my phone connecting over HDMI, but the Android app support is a huge bonus I didn't even count on.
I had a few emails with support regarding firmware upgrades and app availability - the response time was awesome and they helped with everything I needed.
My only minor concern is that I wonder if the version of Android on the projector will be able to support apps as the apps continue to evolve. For example, DC Universe says that I need a newer version of the app, but that version is not available in the projector's store. Perhaps a future firmware upgrade will address that? It's not a huge deal since we can always connect a phone or laptop over HDMI.
I have had no issues with battery life so far as we can never stay in the hot tub long enough to watch a whole movie yet.
FYI, here's what I am using the projector with for my complete setup:
- iKlip Grip tripod (basically from our selfie stick)
- Elite Screens 100" pull down projector screen
- JBL Charge 3 waterproof bluetooth speaker
- mDesign Stackable Bathroom Storage Box (to protect it from splashes)

Very good portable projector
Fernando✓ Verified Purchase•July 15, 2023
Bought this on August 2020
My goal while buying this projector was to have a portable screen, with an okay resolution (720p was enough), that I could take with me while travelling and could use to watch shows anywhere I wanted, as a secondary objective I wanted to be able to use it as an second screen for my laptop while travelling.
After months of using it, this is what I realized:
- Auto focus is really nice and saves a lot of time when moving it;
- Keystone correction is also good but be aware that only corrects the image vertically. If you want to do it horizontally you will have to do it manually;
- Phone app is intuitive to use (for me), I just use that instead of the remote control;
- Nebula Apps, I've used Netflix, Crunchyroll, Spotify, Youtube and Amazon Prime Video. The only app that really made me lose my patience was Amazon Prime Video, I could not configure subtitles;
- Screen mirroring, I bought this version because I was used to screen mirror my phone to my old TV directly (no chromecast), I never liked the TV/Projectors inbuilt apps and I think it is much easier to control apps over my phone. But it was kind of a bummer, none of the apps would broadcast to Nebula (something related to privacy?). If you want to do screen mirroring, go for chromecast or any other dongle that does that;
- Do you want to game on it?, well, I didn't, but if I could I would be happy. The latency delay on this projector is high, I could feel it while playing any fighting games on a Switch. It works well for games that don't require quick actions. Also because of the delay, I couldn't use this as a second screen for my laptop, it is not responsive enough.
- Battery, I was impressed at first, it would need charge only after 1:30/2:00 hours of watching shows. A couple months ago I started getting a 20% battery warning after 20-30 minutes of use, but it still lasts about 1:30 hours, don't know if this is a bad sign;
- Brightness: My living room is not too dark and it performs really well there, I have nothing to complain about its brightness;
- Fans are very quiet, really you won't hear them;
- Speakers can get loud, I haven't used more than 40% of its capacity and my main objective was to watch shows and not use it to play music;
Conclusion: I waited for a deal before buying this, it was definitely worth it even though I haven't been travelling much (thank Covid). I use it every day in my bedroom to watch shows, I'm happy with the image quality and the existing features provided to watch shows. If you want to use it for something else, it might not be the product for you.

I bought this seeking an upgrade from the original capsule. There are two different options for an upgrade provided by anker nebula. The capsule 2, and the capsule max. The capsule two is more of a software upgrade using android tv with partial hardware upgrade. It does provide better picture quality, but reduces battery life. The capsule max is more of a hardware upgrade, it does upgrade the software by one whole version, but doesnt have android tv. It has a 4 hour battery life, with the upgraded picture, and auto focus. I wasnt I interested in the software upgrade. So I bought the max over the 2. I am extremely happy with it. It may be slightly larger than the slogan for the original "soda can sized projector" but it still maintains great portability and convenience providing it's own speakers, remote, bluetooth and wifi hardware all within the system. Which means all the additional equipment I might need is a tripod, maybe a projector screen if you dont already have something flat to "project" on. The onboard speakers are plenty loud for me, however the bluetooth feature allows you to connect to almost any standard bluetooth enabled speaker and play the audio that way instead. Meaning if you so desired, you could set up surround sound using functions such as JBL being able to connect to multiple speakers via 1 primary speaker.
As far as drawbacks. I would like to see the rang of applications on the android software to increase. Specifically Disney+, which is currently unavailable. But it does offer most the other popular options. Ex. Hulu, Netflix, VRV(anime), HBO, ABC and tons of others. I also would like to see more IR receivers in different locations on the speaker, currently there is only 1 located in the back of the projector, meaning you can only use the remote if standing behind the projector. Nebula does make up for this with the free bluetooth application that can give you more functionality in co trolling the projector. The most helpful function in my opinion being able to pull up a keyboard on your phone to type instead of having to select each letter one at a time with the remote.
Overall, I highly recommend the projector for social people who enjoy the outdoors, families who like backyard barbecues and fire pits, anyone who likes watching movies on their ceiling while lying in bed. People who dont want to carry around d a 72" tv in their backpack. And frankly, projectors are just cool.

One of the Best Truly Portable Units Available
Codedancer✓ Verified Purchase•July 8, 2023
Searching for a true portable projector with HD picture quality, decent sound and good battery life with a sufficiently bright picture is NOT easy to find. Believe me I have tried. Anker is the only brand I have found that specs battery life at a watchable brightness level. Several units I have tried only get less than an hour at their claimed brightness and their "eco" modes are unwatchable except in darkness. The Anker does have two levels, but both are very watchable even with some lights on. More importantly, I have been getting over 3hrs at standard brightness on battery. The picture spec is 720p as compared to some that are 1080p but don't let that prevent you from trying it as even with my Macbook Pro Retina output, the text is very sharp. The sound is also a big plus for its size as it can truly be used as a portable BT speaker.
There are a few negatives which is why only 4 stars. First, it has Android Mobile OS which does not come standard with the Google Play store. You can get a code from Anker Support to install their beta release of the full Google Services. but you cannot revert. Because this is not Android TV you do not the TV version of many apps nor will you get Google Voice Assistant. You also do not get much control over the picture settings. Finally, the unit is powered by a 16v adapter instead of USB-C which does compromise unconnected battery time. I do recommend use of a wireless mouse over its built-in mouse/arrow key setup.
I do like the fact that it natively supports AirPlay both from iOS and OSX. It also is quieter than most of the competition with no whine. The auto-focus/keystone works as advertised and is quite convenient. Finally, the Nebula Connect app is excellent and stands in beautifully if you don't have a wireless mouse. Its keyboard function also works great since you don't have direct voice assist.
In conclusion, while there are cheaper and on paper better spec'd competitors, you'd be making a mistake not giving the Capsule Max a try as it is a real-world all=around performer in the Portable HD Projector space. Highly Recommended.
