Positive transaction and perfect size for the square section the water heater is held in.

I was skeptical of purchasing this pan the price for one and the poor reviews. My background is as a tradesman, over 30 yrs. exp. My experience in doing plumbing is lengthy, I have done many aspects and am not a certified plumber, but have performed as one quite successfully and know the ins and outs along with many common problems. For example it is true the round pans if sized exactly presents difficulty when trying to attach a garden hose to the lower drain with out hitting the side or having to bend it to fit hose. The square design I saw as immediate plus. It is made of real sheet metal, meaning steel and not aluminum or plastic ( the plastic designs are the most unfortunate , in terms of durability and land filling later on) . Now one does have to understand sheet metal work to interact with this pan. It is common for sheet metal to not be exact, as this one is, shows the edge still holds a memory of once being a flat piece of metal so the ninety degree angle of the sides at the edge fall away given the impression that the front lip piece will not fit , too small. In reality it is just a matter of holding the outer flanges outward while bending the side wall in back towards a ninety and voila it presses togather tightly making a tight seam. It is the most common practice in HVAc to use sealants on seems to make them airtight and watertight. Done all the time and if done right makes the finish product sturdy and tight against water or air. Overall the pan is of sturdy design (even though I gave it only 4 stars for sturdiness , it is basically sheet metal no match for clumsy dropping of the water heat on edge or accidentally hitting with your foot , but in comparison the aluminum is by far worse and the plastic as mentioned earlier. ) and correct shape for my water heater and do believe that it was designed by plumbers who have encountered the problems I have described time and again. It was well worth the purchase price and maybe if more where sold the price would go down slightly not too much. I will probably be sourcing this item again and again as the need arises.

This product works great for us !!! We used it for a 40 gallon hot water heater that we put in a corner in a square pedestal . We did silicone around the front just forbre assurance! Would recommend this product as we couldn't find the right size round pan.
