Its is great for what you spend on it. Does the job as intended, and a full modular helmet fits in it. Few inconsistencies in the finish, can tell it was painted in a non clean environment. Bumps in the clear coat. The mount is definitely ment for a tubular rack. I have a metal plate for my carrier and getting the mount put on was a pain. The plate pattern and mount diamond pattern didnt allow easy installation. Had to make flat metal shims in place of the curved supplied ones. Otherwise it looks great.

Read many of the complaints and don't have any problems. Fit and finish is what you get for the price -- minor paint blemishes biggest issue; the injection molded plastic also needed to be trimmed off the base plate and latching mechanism to convince me everything properly fit together. Found the trunk case mounted securely to the base unlike other reviews. Was anxious about lid staying shut and preventing stored items from launching into street after a pothole, but then realized the ASSEMBLY MUST BE LOCKED EVERY TIME to keep everything together. No instructions making that point--word to the wise.
Much lower cost option to the $1500 BWM top case

The dealer wants about $1500 for a BWM Top case not does not electrically lock, no interior light, and not brake light. So enter the $70 option with a lock and thumb screw removal. It does just about the same thing and I can buy 20 of these instead of one BMW top case. The down side was making an adaptor plate between the bike luggage rack and the tope case. The mount that comes with it did not fit my 900XR. So I just traced the hole patterns on a thin piece of wood. drill out the holes to mount the wood plate then screw on the top case. The case locks to the bike and you get two case lock keys. I figure if it breaks I can still buy 19 more to replace it.
It's okay.

The lock is a joke, but pretty much all motorcycle locks are.
I threw away the base plate that this clips into, and bolted it directly to my luggage rack.

Put the base on your rack and figure out where bolts and fasteners will work for your rack. Drill 4 holes in the bottom of trunk where the bolts will work, then put bolts with added washers inside of trunk through the base and fasten all tightly using an allen wrench and nut driver. Latch is garbage, I will have to drill holes for a little hasp lock i just ordered because this latch won't lock and unlock worth a damn... Looks good and it's secured to rack now, with proper instillation...I will drill small holes in outer rim for water to drain, making it water proofish. By now it is what it is and I'm not taking it all off now and sending it back...with a little added work it is a good luggage rack.
