These are just what you would expect... chewy oat groats. As I write this review though the price has gone through the roof so I will be looking for another brand.
Plump groats

Ever since Amazon sold me my last order of Bob's Red Mill Groats (discontinued), back in 2019, I have been trying to find a suitable replacement with plump, full-bodied grains. These are it:

- The Yupik brand groats are really good, full-sized, and plump.

The 3 others we tried are selling short, skinny groats.
Very clean - didn't have to pick out prickly hulls, yay

I ordered two different brands of organic oat groats at the same time: Yupik and LiveToEat.

Flavor similar, cook time similar.

DIFFERENCE: even after washing I typically picked out about a couple dozen sharpish hulls in each bowl of cooked groats from the LiveToEat brand. The Yupik was waaaaaaay better! (Maybe 1 or 2 pieces of hull, if at all in any given bowl of cooked groats.)

I think the issue with the LiveToEat brand is that even washing the groats wasn't effective at clearing away some of these hulls as they were still attached to the groat. Simple washing didn't fix it. Just had to painstakingly chew, hesitate, push the tough membrane forward to front of mouth and pick out with fingers. A real pain. I had a paper towel handy each time I ate a bowl of groats. Occasionally I would swallow without realizing a scratchy hull was going down the tube, too and it kinda hurt. Which also made me nervous about what that hull was gonna do in my digestive tract. Anyway -- whatever care the Yupik folks are doing to process their groats, they are doing a fabulous job! I would highly recommend their product as I enjoy the texture of groats (without hulls, thank you very much.) :)
Ridiculous price hike!!!!

I've been eating oat groats for breakfast for quite a while now and have bought the Yupik product for roughly the last year. Excellent, consistent product with no issues........until my bucket was getting low and I went to reorder last week. All of my previous 4-5 orders the 2.2 lb bag was $8.99 per bag. I go to do a quick reorder the other day and now only 2 months later it's $19.72 a bag!!! I understand Bidenomics and the current creep of inflation, but that's a little too much to take unless 75% of the oat fields have mysteriously burned or something. I sadly ordered one bag to hold me over till I figure out some alternatives - just not gonna pay that regularly!
Wonderful taste and aroma

When I cook up a pot of oat groats, the whole house is perfumed! ITts a delicious flowery smell that you don't get from other grains. The taste ia great too, not as raw and earthy as brown rice, but more delicate. The grains have a very nice chew to them.
As a result, you can add them to most any soup, or serve them on their own. They are very healthy for you, loaded with fiber and other nutrients.
