Cannot get lancet to produce blood. What are we doing wrong?

Tried this kit for the 1st time this morning"¦got the dog on the bed and tried to relax her as much as possible. Tried the ear method first with the lancet loaded"¦no blood. Then tried the needle by itself"¦again no blood.😡 The kit itself is great and once learned is very easy. THE PRINT IS WAY TOO SMALL IN THE INSTRUCTIONS, HOWEVER.

My 13 year old cat Remi weighed over 20 lbs in January 2023. I knew if I didn't get his weight down diabetes was in his future. Well in June when he started having trouble with his back legs I knew it happened. So off to the Vet we went where my suspicions proved true.
I checked out many glucose monitoring products searching for one that I would be comfortable with. When i found the Pet Control System I didn't have to search any longer. I based my decision on their very informative page and great reviews.
When the monitor arrived I found one problem, I couldn't open the battery compartment. Called Costumer Service on Friday an hour before they closed at 5:30, but I figured I would not hear from anyone. I did get the cover opened and set up the monitor which was an absolute breeze to do. To my surprise at 8:15 that night not only did I get a call, which went to VM, from Adie as well as a text. I replied to her text she called back me right back.
So to sum this up, not only do I have what I consider to be the best monitor it's back by the best Customer Service I've EVER had the pleasure to speak with.
