Easy to install - if you follow the instructions

We installed this at the top of steps going to a lower level to keep our dogs from going down there. We used the "pressure mount" method rather than the hardware method, which involves putting holes in the walls. But we're not worried about the dogs getting through.
It was slightly tricky to figure out how to adjust the expansion bolts that hold the gate in place, so experiment with those and loosen them all before trying to fit into your opening. They give you a little wrench so that you can sufficiently tighten it.
The opening mechanism works well, and if you pull it so that it's perpendicular to the gate, it will stay open, which will be useful when I'm going to be carrying things up and not wanting to fuss with the gate.

This is a nice gate and was very easy to install. An extra pair of hands are helpful to hold the gate in place while tightening the screws to hold it in place. We have base moulding in our doorway and I was concerned about installation, but it didn't make a difference in our case. It can be installed without screwing anything into the wall, although I would do that if we were using it for toddlers. Since we are using this for small dog control and not children, I took another reviewer's suggestion and removed the plastic clip that holds the door at the bottom. Then we don't have to lift the gate to open it. That made it much easier to operate with no degradation in performance. I also like that the door will stay open if you put it at 90 degrees open in either direction. We can leave the gate open when the dogs are outside or sleeping in their crates. Highly recommended.

I purchased this gate to keep my beagle from going to the basement unattended. It is very sturdy, looks nice, and I like that the gate swings both directions. It was easily installed, and I am very well pleased. I would recommend it if you have a child or pet that you wish to stay away from the stairs. The lock requires pushing down, but then pulling the gate up a touch to open. A small child wouldn't be able to breach this.
My husband was able to make the gate work well in the 32†opening.

We bought two gates for babysitting our two young grandchildren. My husband installed the gates following the instructions, but the gates were a bit wobbly in the door frame. Also, the gate door did not latch latch/fit into the gate frame and did not line up with the frame. The instructions said not to worry about the gap. It looked funny not to be aligned. Our baby grandson would stand at the gate and keep shaking it. My husband figured out a solution that makes the gates work pretty well now. We have a 32" door opening; I cannot explain the situation, but my husband asked a contractor friend of his to make two small blocks of wood for each gate to be placed between the door frame and the "screw" at the top and bottom of the gate at the latch end. The gate is now stable and fairly sturdy, and the latch lines up with the frame, even though the gate latch does not actually fit completely into the gate frame. Would I buy this gate again? Yes, because most gates available seemed to be made for larger openings, it was what I was looking for, and the gate door swings opens in either direction. We leave the gates open when the kiddos are not here. I like the clean lines, and even though the door latch does not actually fit into the gate frame, the serves its purpose and the gate is now pretty sturdy.
