Cobra Radio 2-way & Weather

This style radio works really well. Easy to use 3 or more at once ,with excellent battery life. Able to communicate with others clearly and no background interference.
They actually work long range

I have tried so many walkie talkies over the years, and none of them ever work far enough away from each other to be useful to me. These are the first ones I've been able to communicate over a mile away in any conditions. I was inside a metal building, my friend was in a vehicle driving 55 mph and we were able to hear each other for about a mile and a half before we lost signal. The reason I got these was so my wife can get ahold of me no matter where I'm at on our large acreage. There is no cell service and we live in a mountainous area so there are tons of trees, over 100' elevation change from the house to the creek bottom. We had a medical emergency recently where she couldn't reach me and I was too remote for her to come get me. These radios work excellent, and I use mine with the earpiece so I can hear her over the tractor or any other equipment. Hopefully we never need to use them, but it's really helpful to have these for future emergencies. The radios are excellent quality and I expect to get many years of use out of them.
Tried and tested

Bought these for a fishing trip to Wyoming and on day one accidentally tested them by dropping in the river. They floated to the top and kept on working. Used for the rest of the week with no problem and the battery life is awesome. 5 days, 8+ hours use/day, one change.
Exceptional FRS Radios
JustinTN✓ Verified Purchase•July 25, 2023
This is my third pair of FRS radios in about three months. I use these daily to set up K9 Search & Rescue problems for my dog in the Rocky Mountain region. It isn't practical to use radios that require a license for training because I'm always using different "˜subjects' so that the dog learns to discriminate between the scent of different people. For those who don't know, the FCC limits the power on FRS channels to 2-watts which isn't much. In certain terrain, the usable range of these radios can be less than a mile but that's the downfall of all FRS radios - regardless of the range manufacturers put on the box. These radios can also access GMRS channels and will automatically transmit with 5-watts of power on GMRS channels. This does help extend the range slightly over FRS. We have tried Midland and Motorola radios; they all perform similarly on the respective 2-W and 5-W channels. The difference between Cobra and others is volume, durability, and the user interface. The radio models I have tried that use buttons for volume adjustment are not practical to use. You have to be in the right mode to adjust volume and some have such weak speakers that you can't hear the radio unless you hold it to your ear. The two main functions of any radio are on/off and volume. Because those two functions are on a dial, the buttons on the front of the radio can remain locked once the radio is set up. This is huge! With other radios, you are constantly fiddling with the buttons to lock and unlock the buttons each time you use them. Lastly, the Lithium ion batteries perform better than expected. I was hesitant to purchase these because it's really easy to swap out AA batteries in the field. The lithium ion batteries have good life and the indicator gives you plenty of notice when the battery starts to fade. These radios are about as good as they get for non-licensed use.
Good talk

Tried out the Cobar RX680 on my camping trip and they were great. Very clear and easy to use. The grandkids had fun with them too.
