Had a tube waterbed many years ago, and had no idea what I had. The only bed I've had that has lasted over 10 years and was just as comfortable 10 years later as the day I got it. I've tried so many beds since then, most last a year or two before I start looking for ways to give it new life.
What I learned back then is to use air instead of water. It's more comfortable and convenient. They require some adjustment to get to your comfort level but offer enough versatility to accomplish it. A thick cotton batting on the top cover helps it feel more like a traditional bed, and avoid the memory foam topper versions if you have a bad back.
The cons of this one; the cover has only one small zipper tag so it only opens and closes one way. More importantly, the topper is too thin. You can feel the tubes through the topper, easily solved if you have an old thick blanket or sleeping bag to lay over the tubes before zipping it up. Another problem is the tubes slide around, not as much with the foam piece provided on the bottom but it still needs to be adjusted every few months. The quality of everything is decent, but I was expecting a little more for the price.
Pros, life altering, it's really like sleeping on a cloud and you'll find you can sleep like a kid again and plop down anyway and wake up with no pain. Seriously, try and find an uncomfortable position! It's not so easy, I've tried. It will take some adjustment to make it feel perfect but can be set up to any comfort level on either side of the bed and with the tubes as side sleeper you can even set it up so there is less pressure on your shoulder and more on your hips by filling one tube more and sleeping slightly diagonally. Or if you sleep on your back when you sleep just right on a firm tube it completely relieves all the pressure on the spine, which is amazing if you have a bad back. The amount of control over your comfort makes these tube water/air mattress one of the best options for beds even with the crazy prices.
So, I'm happy with the purchase even if it set back quite a bit of money. Getting rid of my first bed like this 30+ years ago was one of my very small great life regrets. I'm happy with the current one but the quality of the last one, had me thinking it would still be around, just as comfy as the day I got it had I been able to replace the tubes back then. I'm guessing this one should last at least a decade, maybe two.
