I sold my Segway minilite to get something faster,and with more range, so I decided to fork over $638 for Ninebot S-Plus. WOW...what a difference, especially in range! This Segway lists at 22 mile range, and a 12.5mph top speed. With my weight at around 150lbs, I achieved 15.34 miles at an average speed of 9.33mph, and with still had 26% battery left!! I definitely could of got over 20 miles range on this guy, but I just got tired of standing. Just a minor complaint, this segway beeps and kicks me back when I go over 12mph, it would do the same to my old minilite when I hit 9.5mph, so the extra 2.5mph comes in handy. Another bonus...this charges fast, as it only takes about 2 hours to charge from 10% battery level, the manufacturer lists 4 hours from empty.

Pros
1. Battery range- I got 15.34 miles with 26% battery left, at an average speed of 9.33mph!
2. Speed- can do 12mph comfortably
3. Fast charging- took only 2 hours from 10% battery.
4. Smooth ride- handles small bumps, and rough surfaces well. Be carefully not to go over anything an inch.
5. App- pretty good, there has been complaints here about it not displaying mph, but it does, you just have to go to settings.
6. Lights- The front light is bright for night time riding, the wheel lights is a nice touch.
7. Remote- kinda cool how you can have this follow you like a dog.

Cons
1. Beeping and kick back- annoying when you go over 12mph.
2. Price- I paid $216 including tax(on sale) for my older minilite, and the S plus costs almost triple that($638 including tax, on sale). Yes it gets twice the range, and goes 2.5mph faster, but I think this should be priced at $500.
3. Worthless camera attachment- couldn't find anywhere you can get this camera.
4. Tutorial- had to go through this to unlock the sport mode speed, but you only have to do this once.

UPDATE:
I forgot to update this review. After writing a letter to Segway CEO (snail mail style) about my experience (and I just happen to be an attorney) a very helpful technical support programmer type contacted me. The problems I was having were due to a firmware update with a severe bug that could not easily be removed from the unit. The Segway team eventually figured out a manual process to fix the problem but they had to contact every owner and go through a complex sequence of steps to correct the problem. To their credit, they worked night and day calling what must have been hundreds if not thousands of customers. The fix worked!! I HAVE HAD NO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH MY TWO SEGWAY S-PLUS UNITS. I bought the third party handle for my wife's unit (google search).

Lastly, with repsect to comfort... my wife and I experience some discomfort in our feet after riding for an extended period. I suspect our feet would adjust/get used to it over time. upgrading to 4 stars.

I bought two of the Segway S-Plus from Amazon at the same time on the same order. I'm very savvy tech guy. First unit would not activate using the complicated activation process. First of all, there should be no activation process. You should just turn it on and it works. Should not require an account and and activation. The second unit activated with no problem. Opened online case with Segway. No response. Called... was told there is a problem with activations. Send photo of serial number and someone will get back to you in 48 hours.... OK So I just bought an $800 paperweight/door stopper and can't ride it for two days and someone will maybe get in touch with me about it???? Segway support is horrible!!!!!!

Update: two more days have gone by. No meaningful contact from tech support. NOW the SPlus that was activated and working has lost its activation and now fails the re-activation attempts with the same error as the other one. Now I have two $800 paperweights. I have opened yet another case with support and I'm still waiting for a meaningful call back on the first case.

Had to talk to Amazon support for 45min to get them to authorize return of the first one. They wanted to make sure I was doing everything right.

I was enticed by the larger battery, higher top speed, and the follow mode. However after 2 years of riding I would have been better off getting the standard version. Don't get me wrong, the S Plus has proven to be reliable as I rode it work everyday since the beginning of the pandemic. The battery is large enough to last a few days without a charge, my work is only a few miles away, so the standard version would have been sufficient in that regard. The speed is annoying slow at a top speed of 12 mph, so 10 mph on the S version would have been just as annoying but better than walking. And finally the follow mode, the main reason I went with this version is completely useless. I felt I could use this to shop for groceries and the S Plus would follow me around the store. The reality is that it follows the Bluetooth signal and wouldn't be smart enough to navigate the aisles as well as other customers in the store. Finally, there are no accessories for this version, no handlebar, no camera, and no Mario cart. I've seen another post where the person was able to get a handlebar but after two years of searching I still haven't found anything. Great to pick up take out around the neighborhood and small commutes, but inconvenient to bend over to push this guy around in grocery stores with tight aisles.

Tons of research whether or not to get the S Plus or Max. It came down to the S Plus as the max is a heavier unit and the S Plus you can lift and put in trunk of car or carry down stairs. It's still about 35 lbs, so not light, but lighter.

It was a breeze to get up and running and there is an app. I watched a video from a kid showing the step by step unboxing to riding. Mainly because there was one odd thing I couldn't figure out. Should have but couldn't.

And then it rained for two days- so I rode it around the kitchen island and around the house before getting into it outside. I bought a helmet but don't want to wear it. I will, of course, esp for visibility. Got hot pink.

Runs easy and smooth. Very intuitive. Stays charged.

It is hard against my knee at first but that's because I am probably too tense as I begin this journey riding. I decided I needed practice on transitions- so riding a bunch where hard floor and area rug edge meet.

Overall, I am older than it recommends and prob heavier and it runs great! It will start you out in beginner mode so you can't go very fast and will approve more speed after so many miles of beginner mode.

Just use a wall or railing to step on and off for the first few times until you get your "sea legs".

I waited for the price to drop again and then snagged it! I highly recommend. There are groups online but as a beginner they treat you like a fool, and who needs that? Not me, I left them.

Words cannot describe how much I LOVE my Segway. It is immensely fun and easy to use. I've wanted to be able to ride something, anything, my whole life --skateboard, unicycle, ripstick, longboard, rollerblades, etc-- and never really succeeded... My legs shake so badly from anxiety, and this has prevented me from successfully learning to ride things with wheels. Sure, I was able to stay upright ~mostly~ on ice skates after literally decades of trying, but it never felt comfortable or easy. Every glide felt like I was risking my life (or limbs!) due to how shaky my legs were. Even kick scooters and bicycles feel really risky to me. Imagine my surprise when, in just minutes of my first attempt at stepping on the Segway, I'm rolling around feeling fairly secure! Stepping on it was SO easy. The self-balancing really does help tremendously, and it doesn't feel anything like stepping on a skateboard, where the board instantly wants to shoot off in every direction. Instead, it just rocks slightly and corrects itself. Moving took a bit more effort, but not much. I felt comfortable enough after the intro sequence to take it out for a brief ride.

I've had my Segway for almost a month now, and have stopped driving pretty much entirely. I use the Segway every opportunity I can, and feel disappointed when I have to take the car. It is great, especially, for moving around the city, and can go almost as fast as a bike. Because I've been so successful with the Segway, and feel so secure on it, my legs actually don't shake (unless I hit a bump!). I've hit small bumps 3x or so, and managed to catch myself without any real consequence thanks to the Segway righting itself. Previously, I've hurt myself badly on skateboards and the such because they tend to shoot out in front or behind you, resulting in me tripping on them. Not so with this Segway. My mind trusts it in a way I've never trusted wheels before.

What could they approve? There needs to be a scout frame or other way of attaching things to the Segway. A bar or small metal loop on the back would go a long way-- I would use this to attach a small wagon to tow things. Other ways of attaching things would also be appreciated. The size/shape is awkward because you can't put anything on it. None of the typical scooter/bike attachments will be able to attach to this. I'd like to be able to hang a very small bag, stronger lights, and tow my small wagon without having to craft my own attachment. I've ordered a lightweight scout frame that I hope will help with this.
Also, this really should work with the Go-Kart like the others do. Or they can make a new Go-kart. I'd love to use it with that item.
