It's ok, I like this one better then the metal buckle type

It's ok, I like this one better then the metal buckle type, I bought 2 gait belts, this one with a plastic buckle and one with a metal buckle. The person using this like this one better because its easier to use. Just snap it on and it's ready to use. Where the metal buckle it's takes a lot more time to put on. The only real problem I have come across is that if the person wearing the belt has a pear shaped body, this isn't the product to use. The belt slips up to their chest, and when you try to tighten it up so it doesn't slip they complain saying it's too tight.
Great Gait Belt!!

This is the first gait belt that I have been able to use to assist my husband with standing and/or transferring; he is not a small man. The handles are a life saver, and much needed when I am assisting my husband with standing and transferring. This gait belt is on my husband's person when my son and I transport him to his PT and OT appointments. The OT and PT therapists love the ease of using this gait belt when working with my husband with his rehab therapy. With other gait belts, I have not been able to assist my husband at all. One issue that I have had with the gait belt is that one of the hoops did rip a stitch when my son was using it to assist my husband. Other than that, this is a great gait belt.
One Fix Needed

This gait-belt is so well made and I was stoked to put it in use right out of the package. The stitching is tight, the fabric is heavy-duty, and the handles are well placed. All of those attributes makes finding out that the belt doesn't stay tightened, a HUGE disappointment!

As was the case with the bariatric Dr. Moe's gait-belt, the belt portion began slipping from the buckle. Again, I thought that I had not tightened it properly. That was not the case. There are no "gripping teeth" on the buckle. Therefore, the belt slips out of the buckle which defeats the purpose of this wonderful gait-belt.

From the pictures you will see that I am using bag clips in order to prevent the belt from slipping out of the buckle. Not ideal as they dug into Dad's side when in use. I am extremely sad to say that these belts will be returned. If it were not for that one flaw, I would be keeping them!
For those of us that are in/out of gait belts often

If you are the individual that wears them, or are the caregiver that has to hold on to them while caring for someone else, this belt is the answer to many prayers.
This belt is sturdy without question, as comfortable as can be, easily and comfortably worn while in a wheelchair and not the typical, overpriced piece of medical equipment.
There are 5 separate handles around the belt for caregivers to provide the best assistance to the wearer. Thus giving safety and a sense of assurance to the wearer(and caregiver) during all of those countless, "˜interesting' transfers-at home or with medical professionals.
It has become part of my wardrobe on days visiting my physical therapist for an appointment.
A huge "˜thank you' goes out to the folks
at Dr. Moe's Solutions. Keep "˜em coming!
This is the greatest thing I’ve ever purchased - and it was EXTREMELY durable!!

For years my mother was suffering from normal pressure hydrocephalus, that went diagnosed. I moved home to be her 24/7 caregiver, because after a bone marrow transplant for leukemia, she all of a sudden could no longer even hold her balance standing, let alone walking more then 500 feet once a day due to crippling fatigue and weakness. She couldn't even stand up from a chair on her own.

Part of our daily routine was go for a walk, for as long as she could tolerate it. This belt was a complete godsend, and allowed me to walk with her, without having her feel my hands on her. I'm not sure why a handful of people here are reporting some durability issues with this device, because I've had to tug on that belt multiple times per day for more then a year and a half - and she weighs about 165lbs. After a year and a half of abuse to that belt, not even a stitch has come undone. It's as perfect intact as it was when we got it back in the Spring of 2019.

When bringing her to Physical Therapy (multiple places too), they always just used the belt that I brought - and they all liked it. Why rehab facilities still use those basic belts, I have no idea, when ones like this are far superior.

Last summer, I was able to get my mother in her pool every singe day that it wasn't raining, and I even kept this belt on, since she couldn't hold her balance even when surrounded by water. And if she were to fall back, she wouldn't have been able to stand up on her own. I would even use the belt to help hoist her out of the pool, since that last step out was extremely difficult for her, so she needed maximum assistance here as well.

This belt was everything, and it was the greatest tool I had to help her with physical therapy everyday, because it kept my mind at ease that I could keep her safe using this.

Well, last November (2020), she finally got diagnosed correctly with NPH, after several neurologists wrote her off with Parkinsonism and/or post-stroke brain damage. Because of the NPH diagnosis, this past February, she went in for a ventricular shunt implant. Since then, she has slowly gained back a lot of independence. She can stand up on her own for one thing, but more importantly, she can hold her standing and walking balance. She can even walk in a store for over an hour. And while I still keep the belt on her for long walks, I almost never have to use it. I don't even have to keep my hands near her.

While this is nothing short of a miracle, this belt allowed me to maximize her walking, as it allowed me to always keep a tight control of her without her being distracted by having her feel my hands holding her pants. It also allowed me to protect her better by being able to tug her back up when she would constantly take missteps, or just lose her balance.

PSA: Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus is a somewhat rare brain disorder where cerebral spinal fluid builds in the brain, unable to be properly absorbed. Because of the pressure, it can cause a slew of symptoms: cognitive issues, balance problems, shuffling of feet when walking, incontinence, etc. Often time, patients are misdiagnosed with Parkinson's, dementia, or Alzheimer's. If a patient has NPH, an MRI will show the characteristics of this disorder, and will include many of these symptoms, depending on the stage in which the disease has progressed. If a patient checks the box on these two things, then a lumbar puncture is the final test, in which they drain a small amount of spinal fluid out to see if there are any short term improvements. If yes, a diagnosis of NPH is entered, and the patient may qualify for a shunt - and can help treat the disease and reverse the symptoms.

If you have a loved one that you feel might be misdiagnosed, please see a neurologist and ask for an MRI and then ask about NPH. Please know, that after my mother showed characteristics of NPH in her MRI scan (and apparently it was listed in the findings of MRIs for the last 8 years - not was never mentioned to her) and her litany of symptoms aligning with the disorder, we had one Neurologist say "it definitely wasn't NPH" and "I wouldn't even recommend a spinal tap" - which again, is what is used to prove it. So, we went Mass General Hospital (#1 in the state) and we were able to get the lumbar puncture which helped "prove" a correct diagnosis. So"¦NEVER GIVE UP!
