One ONE SIM Card slot, difficult to connect to AT&T
Anon✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 16, 2023
I've had this device for for about a month now. Unfortunately, I have not been able to use it traveling, so this review is based solely upon use in downtown San Diego (i.e., wonderful cell phone signal).
First the good news: I got the "virtual modem" to work with Glocalme North American and International data plans. I also got relatively fast 4G service using Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T nano SIM's.
Now, the bad news:
1. There is no second SIM card slot. A second SIM does NOT fit in the device anywhere. Chatted with Glocalme support and they confirmed there is only ONE SIM card slot. I sent them the Amazon listing that said two SIM card slots, and Glocalme said that was erroneous (looks like Amazon has now removed that from its listing). I can however easily remove and replace SIM's in the device.
2. The device easily connected via the virtual SIM, but the data speed was very slow (3. I had to reach out to Glocalme support to get the free 8GB of NA data, and it only lasts for 30 days (the 1.1GB of international data lasts for 90 days).
4. Although the device immediately connected to my Verizon 4G and T-Mobile 4G, connecting to AT&T 4G was a nightmare. Apparently, AT&T does not have this device listed in their system. It took me 10 hours on the phone with AT&T, numerous unkept promises that the device would be added to AT&T system, and finally a supervisor in Advanced Technical Support who added my device using the IMEI number from a tablet, before I got 4G AT&T service. Maybe, sometime in the future, AT&T will add this device to their system. Maybe not. I am concerned about what this means if I try to use a local SIM when I visit another country (will it be like Verizon or like AT&T?).
5. I am not aware of how to add any software to the device and cannot get any of the very limited built in software (currency conversion and translator) to work.
I do not know if I will keep the device or send it back. The "dual SIM card slots" feature was the primary reason I bought it, but I can physically switch out the SIM's. I am not aware of another a universal hotspot that works with Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T, and the virtual modem is a nice feature which I may use during short visits to other countries so I don't have to buy a local SIM card.
Very Happy I Purchased This

I had plans to be in Jamaica for a month and researched various ways to have reliable internet connection without spending a small fortune. I settled on this product and am very glad I did for several reasons.

1. Most importantly, it worked as advertised. Where ever there was 3G service on the island, we had internet service through the G4 Pro. My daughter had to finish up an on line course the first week of our vacation and she was able to have reliable internet service to connect her laptop to. We were able to connect all eight of our devices to the hot spot through out our vacation.

2. It is surprisingly thin and light. I expected it to be more bulky than it is, but it is no larger than some of the popular smart phones out right now. It is probably smaller and lighter than the biggest of the new phones.

3. The touch screen is convenient and makes operation easy.

4. The Google maps app is built in. I used this much more than I thought I would and I didn't have to use phone data. And yes, Google maps mostly worked even in Jamaica, although on some of the less traveled roads it was iffy. I wouldn't rely on Google maps in rural areas of a foreign country unless you have some prior knowledge of the area (I did). Otherwise, you might find yourself in an area that tourists should avoid.

5. You can buy a local data plan and SIM card, which is much less expensive.

6. You can buy more data from the hotspot touch screen, or from the app you download on your smart phone.

7. Customer service is pretty amazing. Four months after I bought it and after my trip was over, it occurred to me I hadn't received the 8GB of U.S. data, so I reached out to the company via the app and they immediately sent the data to my unit. I was impressed with the responsiveness.

The only criticism I can make is that the battery life, while not terrible given hotspot and GPS use is a big power drain, is not strong enough for the hotspot to be used as a power bank for other devices. I think if you use the G4 Pro as a hotspot while trying to charge another device, it would not last long enough to do both. But the power bank feature was not a major reason for me to purchase the G4 Pro and I brought an actual more powerful power bank (much larger in size than the G4 Pro) with me. So no points off for this.
It works as it should! Truth in advertising.

I bought the G4 to use on my recent trip from VA to FL to attend an adventure vehicle expo. I camp in dispersed campsites that sometimes don't have connectivity with my cell carrier. (T MNobile) With the Glocalme G4, I never lost connection. I've seen it connect to all three major carriers, Verizon, AT&T and T Mobile. Connection speed was good. I didn't measure it, but I didn't notice and slowness. I was able to stream videos when I wanted to.

Remember, you need service for Glocalme it to work, so if you're completely off-gris, you won't have internet. Also, since they are a Mobile Virtual Network Operator, (MVNO) their service is sometimes deprioritized so it could slow down.

I find the data prices to be pretty competitive to other MVNOs. It is a bit confusing to find the right plan as they have so many options.

I called tech support to have them add the free 8GB of data. A person answered right away and had no trouble adding the data. It showed up in my data queue right away.

I'm very happy with the device and the service.
Skeptical at first

I have to admit, I was really worried taking the plunge and buying this device based on some of the bad reviews it had out there. Obviously, more glowing and positive ones, but you still don't want to be that person with the "bad" device. Regardless, I have to say I have no serious complaints whatsoever! I took this to Germany, France and Spain...had zero issues. Even working along well here state side...zero issues. I 'm very happy and impressed with the money spent.

I did notice that there are some people who are confused with the "unlimited data" and yes I can totally understand why this would be confusing; that is on part of the company not specifically laying out how it works, but in short, a day pass for unlimited data is not dependent on the time you activate the data (which honestly, that's how it should work if you want to keep people happy) but it is instead based on China's time zoning really, so it's best to try and sync up when their day begins from the 24:00 clock turnover and start your unlimited service then, but it is probably best just to do the Pay-As-You-Go.

Speaking on data, what I found useful is, is that they do not lock you into using their data or plans, but it is great to have two options so that you can compare local SIM plans when you arrive in that country and make a educated decision to use their service or pick up a card from a local seller. Think of using their data as a backup option in a pinch should you need it; its a great safety feature to have because it just works pretty much where ever you are.

Overall,
Usability 10/10
Battery 10/10 (given it's size)
functionality 10/10
Speed consistency 9/10
Instructions 7/10
Tech Support 10/10 (subjective, but my agent was very kind and helped me with activation for my 8Gb)
Works in Vietnam, Not as good compared to iPhone eSim tethering.

I got this as a backup. I loaded it with 15gb plan which was fairly priced. I bought the plan in US and it turned on when I arrived in Hanoi. Speed is not that great. I am getting 13 Mbps and the carrier is Mobifone. It is useable, I can connect to my servers, read reddit, watch youtube videos.

I also got an eSim for my unlocked iPhone 14 Max Pro. The esim rate through another company, Airalo, was a lot cheaper. I can use hotspot thethering on my iPhone 14 and that plan does data roaming between Mobifone and Viettel via Singtel. This gives me Almost 3x the speed at 45 Mbps.

So I am not dissing this product. It works as intended, I will probably continue to use it. I am typing up this review from Hanoi via it right now. So this is great a laptop but if you have an eSim phone w/ tethering, that might be your best bet. This does take about a minute to boot up but so far, it works without issue. It just doesn't have the option of data switching carriers. However, a good thing about it is that it has a physical sim so I might just do that locally when my 15Gb plan burns out. So if you want peace of mind, this will provide it. It works and hassle free to set up. Anyone in my group can use it and the option of physical sims means you are not tied to just using their plan.

Edit: August 2. So I am back from my vacation. My Asia data plan went out. It performed better than I originally wrote. Back in the States, I popped in a Boost Mobile LTE sim and it works with a GSMA sim no problem. Getting 100+ Mbps as a working hotspot in the US on AT&T networks.
