But if you try sometime...

History, and the philosophers Jagger and Richards, remind us that you can't always get what you want. Minix teaches us to try.
The Macbook series of laptops from Apple are terrific pieces of tech. They have fans that clutch them to their chests like their firstborn. But as with all good things, they are not necessarily perfect. Diminutive thickness and light weight require a price. In this case, lack of storage and paucity of ports.
To the rescue rides Minix. Their new NEO Storage provides 120-240 GB of additional solid state storage, while including two USB 3 ports, an HDMI 2.0 port capable of 4K output at 30 FPS, and a USB C port capable of power transmission.
All this comes in an enclosure that weighs next to nothing and can be conveniently dropped in any pocket. The storage is plentiful and fast. The ports provide versatility and convenience. The build quality is typical Minix, with attention paid to fit and finish as well as industrial design.
Are there other USB SSD out there for Macbooks. Sure. But this is the first one I've seen that gives you all this connectivity, plus 120 GB of storage for $79.00 US or 240 GB for $99.00 US. Plus the convenience of a single dongle.
If you're in the market for more storage for your Macbook, this is the way to go.

I'm really glad a techie and I do my research before I jump in and buy. There were so many external drives that said they were compatible with macs, and maybe they are. But the Mac gods put this little guy at the top of their favorites list. Could have gotten a terabyte? Yeah. But listening to the powers that be served well as it always has, this was truly a simple plug and play. It was just that easy. I highly recommend this if you need more space. The only issue I had is that I discovered I had to buy usb to usb-c adaptors. Inexpensive and easy peasy. Just a word to the wise, go ahead and order a couple of those little guys at the same time if you have an older model but the anticipation of adding this much space to your machine will drive you crazy while you wait the extra day or too for the adaptors. Lol. One of the best purchases I've made yet. I'll keep you posted if it explodes. Lol.
Inexpensive and handy USB-C hub - with a unique SSD storage twist

-I like the status light. Not too bright or annoying. Very 'Apple-like' soft glow.
-I wish it had Ethernet (Other MINIX models include this) , but I understand why most people may not care (working in IT causes me to rely on Ethernet more than most customers)
-Very lightweight and portable.
-Storage SSD is a great idea. It's the flagship feature here. I have it configured with a macOS utility/installer image for IT-related uses. I formatted as HFS+J but I can't format as APFS for some reason. I'm a little concerned I will yank out the hub and forget to gracefully unmount via Finder.
-I wish the device was beefier metal - not polycarbonate and aluminum, but it appears pretty tough thus far (and light).
-HDMI is working great on a Dell 24" U2417H 1080 display. No 4K+ monitors here right now to test.
-Power-in from USB-C is working via an Apple OEM 61-watt USB-C charger. Nothing to say here.
-The built-in USB-C cable is fine. Good length. Wish it was black to match the Space Gray aesthetics (nit-pick). I'm torn deciding if Id prefer a removable cable or not.
I would give it a 5-star if it had Ethernet and removable I/O cable. Most customers will not be affected by these "geeky" observations.
(Testing was performed on macOS 10.14.6 on a 2016 MacBook Pro 13" (Touch Bar). No Catalina testing yet.
Specs:
Built-in SSD Storage, HDMI [4K @ 30Hz]
2 x USB 3.0
USB-C [Power Delivery]
4K resolution via HDMI output
USB-C pass-through charging port
240GB SSD storage supports up to 400MB/s read/write speed.

I was looking for an external SSD and a hub for my Mac-Pro and luckily found this all-in-one product.
Pros:
+++++++++HIGH SPEED DATA TRANSFER
Great transfer rates as promised and needless to say about SSDs.
+++++++++++PERFECT FIT TO USB-C PORT
Hubs connects perfect to my mac, just like my power adapter, perfect fit - neither tight nor loose.
+++++++++++++BEST HDMI CONNECTIVITY
connectivity is good, I connect to my 48inch tv and no compromise on picture quality.
+++++++++++++++USB3.0 PORTS CONNECTS GOOD
I usually connect my old USB3.0 1TB hard-drives and able to carry all activities - no issues faced.
+++++++++++++++++STABLE AND INTACT
Connected the hub and just carry my laptop around, connection remained intact all the times.
Charge port actually comes handy and especially important for the Mac's with just 2 ports.
Nice grip on any surface, remains in position.
+++++++++++++++++++REMAINS AT ROOM TEMPERATURE ON USAGE
I did not observe it getting heated-up like other hubs. It just gets l'll warm when HDMI is connected for long time, otherwise remains kool.
+++++++++++++++++++++PORTABLE
And needless to say on the finishing. Smooth feel, slim, light weight and you can just carry around.
Love the color - it matches my mac.
It goes wherever my mac goes.

None

This is a really smart addition to the line. The SSD mounts and transmits without issue; I set it up as the Time Machine for my user folder, and it worked perfectly. The ports are well-positioned for bulky cables. The build and materials are as high-quality as I expect from this brand. The cables and connectors are reinforced, and the body is well-constructed, down to the rubber button feet. The felt carrying case adds an extra layer of protection in my laptop bag. It's so nice to finally combine my essential backup drive with my hub.
