Out with the old ammonia absorption and in with the 12 volt. Hope it holds up well, followed wiring protocols from Norcold to the letter and felt it was a fairly straightforward DIY job. Will update if fridge unit fails in anyway but after testing it's far larger and superior to old Norcold 840 series it replaced. Good job by Norcold designers to make it fit perfectly in old space.

Our goal is freedom. Freedom to camp at national and state parks, freedom from worrying about vapor lock and being totally level, freedom from poor cooling and spoiled food AND freedom from hunting for increasingly expensive LP frequently. This fridge works fantastically with our solar. We turn it on and go. We can camp anywhere in all kinds of sunlight levels and are thrilled with the freedom this fridge and our solar panels have brought us. We've had six LP fridges in assorted RVs. This beats them in every way. That being said, you need a good battery capacity and sufficient solar power to stay off hookups for many days in a row - but it sure is nice to eliminate those old fashioned rv fridge worries.

I have searched for this type of refrigerator for many months. These are a new item for RVs. This one replaced my old norcold in our safari Sahara filling the hole nicely. A little modification, removing old propane line and capping. Running a pair of 10 guage wires to the refrigerator area. This gives us 2 cu ft more space. Running it consumes a little under 5 amps at 12 volt. Now for the week long refrigerator vs 200 watt solar panels vs a newly built 400ah lifepo4 house battery system! After 5 hours refrigerator was at 32 and freezer at 0. Time to adjust settings down to 4. So far I am pleased with this purchase and loosing the no 2 cause of motorhome fires. The absorption refrigerator. Say hello to ice cream and no more frozen lettuce!
I chose the norcold as the domestic I could not find enough information on. I have read of complaints of the furrion being loud. This norcold seems very quiet and also has a night button. I wish my kids had come with one of those!
From so cal to kingman. Fridge kept 37-39f all the way to ouray Colorado. It works like a champ. My wife called this the best thin I have ever bought, due to the extra 2 cubic feet storage.
Update may 2022. Still works like a champ. I had to seal to old vent from previous fridge as it let in cold air and hot air. Now to seal the roof vent! It is quiet. We do not hear it. It holds temps really good. With 200 watt solar it never kills the battery. My wife still praises the extra room. Every trip!

It doesn't matter how new or old your absorption RV refrigerator is, when it gets in hot or humid weather, it will fail you. I did the research, this new Norcold 12 volt compressor refrigerator is your ticket to a dependable unit on the road. it's fairly easy to install if you're handy remodel and 12 volt electrical systems. I went beyond what probably is necessary, but I put this unit on it's own battery and use the normal onboard RV charger to charge this battery. When plugged into shore power then the shore power of course charges it. I have this battery isolated from the other RV batteries. We have not been in hot and humid weather and this unit maintains a constant temperature.
