Great Knife Block

After seeing many pricey knife blocks, I was curious about the quality I could expect for this low price. I have two bamboo cutting boards, so I know that when bamboo is made right, it is very durable & long lasting. After running my fingers along this block, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is made with such precision that it felt like one solid piece of wood. And all edges are smooth.
When I unwrapped the package, I initially thought some assembly parts such as screws or fasteners were missing. But nothing was missing; the block is so cleverly designed, it holds itself together.
It is heavy enough & the magnets are strong enough to allow you to remove knives without holding on to the block as long as you twist/pry the knifes off, rather than sliding them off.
With four large knives attached (7" Cleaver, 6.5" Nakiri, 8" Chef's, 7" Santoku, & two pairing knives, I tried shaking the block to test the magnets. None of the knives moved. Smaller knives such as paring knives have less metal for the magnet to attract, but they didn't move, either.
The two pegs on either side of the block are cleverly designed - they tilt upward so whatever you hang on them is less likely to slip off.

I needed somewhere to keep my knives. This is it! It holds all but one, and that's fine. I do have a LOT of knives. Both sides can hold knives. It just slides together, and the magnet is strong enough to even hold knives that are in blade guards. Easy to clean and looks great on the countertop.
A little large, but I like it.
