This reflective insulation makes a big difference in heat level
Doug B✓ Verified Purchase•September 13, 2023
My mom lives out in the southern California desert and in this current heatwave it is typically 100 to 110 degrees outside. She has a 46" x 46" single pane glass window that is facing the sun a good portion of the day in the front of the house. Even though there is an awning outside the window, it still gets some direct sunlight and gets very hot. She had a thin piece of tinted film and some cardboard hanging in front of the window which probably helped a tiny bit but I heard about these types of reflective insulation and thought I would try some of this to put over the window to see if it worked any better.
She needs to be able to take it down, so I cut a piece and folded over the top and put several wide washers with a nut and bolt through the insulation so I could hang it right against the window with a spring loaded curtain rod. I felt how hot it was in front of the window with the thin film hanging and came back the next day after this new insulation was installed in front of the window and the difference was night and day. It is pretty thin at only three millimeters but it definitely cut down the heat level very noticeably.
It does come in a roll, so it took some rolling the foil the opposite way to get it to lay flat against the window without it curling. Hopefully over time, it will straighten out 100% from its own weight and from being warm. I did notice that the film does have a grid of the small holes in it that people have mentioned but in this roll they are very small and not noticeable unless you really look for them with direct sun behind the insulation. In the picture I attached you can not see them at all. This film is not what I could call inexpensive but I would definitely say it is a good purchase for the benefit received.

It works

Wow. I can't believe how well this works. We installed this in our hottest room. We frequently turn on A/C in this room because it scorches in direct sunlight during the day, and the room is situated above the garage. During the night, the rising heat doesn't help with the cooling process.
Then we installed this. It would be like over 90 degrees outside all day. But the room stays cool in mid-70s throughout the day. And we never turn on A/C in this room anymore. I'm fact, my mum uses the blanket bc it's too cold for her. Unbelievable. I know.
When the temperature goes above 100, the room rises to low to mid 80s. Maybe high 80s if the temperature rises higher than normal. We turn the AC on for 30 minutes, turn it off, and the room stays cool for wayyyyyyyyyyyy longer than before.
I am attaching a photo to show what a big difference this makes. It's 97 degrees outside right now at 3:30 p.m. clear skies. But my room temperature is 74.8 degrees. I expect the temperature to rise to low 80s as the day passes by, but look at this huge difference.
This $15 product will save me about $350 in electricity bills this summer. We'll worth the investment.

Summer heat was so intense & heating up my kitchen where I have French Doors. Ordered 24 in wide &!Placed on the outside of my French doors.. helped so much to block the intense heat . Great quality. Taken down now & rolled up to reuse again next summer.
Keeps the heat out

Used a 48x10 roll to make my own window shades for a camping trip. Was great for privacy and helped keep the heat out as to keep my coolers cold. I made a front windshield cover, a rear window cover, both front side windows and then also 2 smaller rear windows for the trunk area, all with 1 roll.
this is NOT bubble wrap reflective garbage, this is foam insulated reflective material which is BETTER.

Super easy to cut. Doesn’t peel

Easy to cut and foil doesn't peel. Works great. Put up in all my 5th wheel windows for at the river in the heat. Not sure exactly how much it helps. 50'x24" roll did all ten of my windows with a little piece left over.
