It's been almost a year now since I have gotten my whetstone. In some aspects they were not the quality that I thought they would be, and in others they exceeded expectations. What matters though, is you can get a razor-sharp blade with this set. I may be using it wrong but my only problem is with the rubbing compound and stropping. It just doesn't seem to perfect the edge and polish like I thought it would but I also don't spend as much time on it. Overall would recommend this set

This set was very complete and everything was packaged to receive exactly as described without damage. If you are an experienced knifesmith you will have zero need of some of the items included with the kit, but they are very necessary for the beginner. I bought mainly for the stones which are very high quality and are being used to maintain a shaving razor so they are getting very low use. There is a hanging strop included with the kit, you can throw that away as it looks good in the photos but it made of PU leather on top of the very worst bottom cut leather I've ever seen with a total thickness of 0.0625" There is a nice top grain leather rectangle Approx 10"X3.25"X.125" that is used for stropping. This piece of leather is high quality and I use it every day. Over all I consider this a good value for the price and something you won't be able to easily find in any local brick and mortar store.
For a beginner/novice, this set is hard to beat.

I thought I new how to sharpen knives properly for many years and have had some success. However, I've learned that I didn't know as much as I thought. This set of whetstones and accessories is great for a beginner/novice to learn and develop skills to properly sharpen any knife correctly and get it really sharp. With some patience, this complement of stones and accessories will yield great results. Sure there are better quality stones but first learn the craft, then decide on what to spend more money on. This set is more than adequate to obtain great results regardless of your skill level, don't let the snobs fool you that this set is not adequate. The method is as important as the equipment. You will be able to get your knives razor sharp and learn how to use the tools to get them there. This is an excellent set of equipment for that purpose.

Sharpened four knives using this kit so far. I have never used whetstones before but want to learn the skill. I was definitely able to make my knives sharper.
All of the stones seem to do their jobs well. As others have mentioned the bamboo stone holder slides all over the place but the kit comes with silicone stone holders that stick much better to surfaces.
As a complete novice at sharpening I highly recommend this kit because it comes with everything one is going to need to learn the techniques.
