I needed light yellow and light green touch up paints. Nix Mini 3 gave consistent suggestions on both. Light yellow was spot on, but the light green was way off. My mixed green paint came out a lot darker in a different hue. I had to completely repaint my light green walls. Since color matching is a crapshoot and lots of people complained about the dead battery. Not being able to turn on and bypass dead battery finally killed it for me, it is a no go.

I went to a big box store to have paint matched to an existing wall paint. I took a piece of the wall with me each time. I wound up buying a sample paint each time I went. None of the four sample paints were even close. I was told to give it up because I was never going to be able to match it. I didn't give up! I read about the Nix mini 3 and decided to give it a try! NAILED IT! Got the perfect color match in seconds! Saved me from having to have entire floor repainted! GENIUS!!!!

Works great. I was able to match a color for my customer on the first try after multiple failures before buying the nix mini. Very easy to use and over all great price

Solfware should be easier to use

This is wonderful tool to help match an unknown paint against know color swatches from 20 major paint manufacturers. This is better than working with color swatches or a shot in the dark - but it has issues.
Over the years we've repainted the rooms in our three story Victorian several times and kept track of every paint color except for two colors. That's where the Nix comes in. Before testing any of our unknown wall colors we tested the Nix mini against 10 color swatch's from the store. The Nix was 100% accurate and identified the color name and the manufacture right off the bat. The same was not true for the colors of our know colored walls. The Nix offers "Excellent" matches to a scan and "Good" matches. All of the known colors on our painted walls were "Good" matches to the paint color we used and none were "excellent." And when it came to matching the grey in our bedroom, the Nix was terribly wrong100% of the time.
Excluding our grey bedroom where the Nix failed miserably, the difference between the scan and the name of the paint on our walls is noticeable. Thankfully the Nix allows for side by side comparison of their scan against suggested colors. The color imbalance on our walls maybe caused by human error, the sunlight effect, dust, the primer we used, number of coats applied, surface conditions, or different mixing machines. These might account for some of the subtle differences between the Nix scan and the named paint.
Our worst results were from our freshly painted "grey room." The walls were dark primed and three top top coats of grinder grey made everything uniform. Our Nix was totally wrong time and time again and our color wasn't listed.
With all our mixed results we are still very pleased. The side by side comparison feature is fantastic. No ability to save your scan for future use with the Mini 2. Great for a homeowner handyman around the house. If you're a pro, you'll need the pro model features.
