This transfer tape is the best I have found for my lasering business. It's strong enough that it does't peel up while lasering. But comes off easy without pulling up any of the wood.

I bought this tape to mask wood boards before cutting them in the glowforge. It does a beautiful job. It's the perfect state of tackiness-not so sticky that it won't pull off and leaves residue, nor so weak that it won't hold the project for you to cut. My top tip: use a brayer. As you place the tape on the board, use a brayer to keep air bubble and wrinkles from forming. Brayer from the center out to the edges. This gives you perfect coverage and perfect adhesion every time. And the price is phenomenal. At the I bought it, it was 13 cents a foot!

I use this to mask non-Proofgrade wood on my Glowforge laser-cutter. When it's working, it's great. I have a homemade dispenser for it, grab the end, pull off ~20+ inches, hold the board to the middle on cut end, line-up uncut end, use a box-cutter to slide it off, use the plastic scraper to flatten, flip and repeat. That's about 80% of the time.
First 10% of the roll - pull off 20+ inches, it's so hard to pull - oh, and it didn't pull off right on this side, so it's not 12" wide, cut restart. This roll and previous roll, first ~20' I scrapped. (See photos #5-7). And that was to get to something I hope is moderately usable (see photos #1-4), where the transfer tape was split and overlapped on the roll, before I got to it.
And then there's an odd sniffle in the middle, and in the last 5-10% gets hard to pull again, which causes random tears, etc.
Since it's 300' and mostly working, I'm not going to return it, but the last 2 rolls I used were much more painful than the first 2 I purchased, and I buy them ~6 months apart.

I've ordered this several times before. This time, after maybe using 50 feet or so I started to notice a bump or ridge about 3/4" wide all around one end of the roll. Eventually i came to it. It's about a 3/4" wide strip of what appears to be the transfer paper but without any adhesive. It's almost impossible to remove and if I AM able to remove the strip itleaves and impression in the tape that interferes with burnishing.
