This is a really fun toy that will enthrall me for a long time to come, altho it is certainly more than a toy: it is a precision instrument. I purchased it to study the lighting for my plants. I quickly realized there was much to learn about lighting and photosynthesis, and this instrument has triggered my curiousity. It precisely measures all the parameters I ever heard of and then some. I have used it to check/evaluate the accuracy of two other lightmeters I own and understand why they read differently (they have different spectral responses).
The spectral display is just plain awesome. It works extremely well right out of the box, is simple to use (but there is a learning curve to understanding what the meter is telling me).
There are more ways to use this meter than you can imagine. Far more than just the quantity of light, but its quality. I have played with it looking at the spectrum of direct light, filtered light, reflected light, light thru curtains, colored lenses, UV-blocking safety glasses, shooters goggles, sunlight, cloudy skies, room lights, grow lights, lantern flames, (haven't tried moonlight yet - it may not be sensitive enuf), even light that shines thru my finger.
You can even see the 687nm and 763nm Oxygen absorption lines in sunlight!
It comes with a very nice carrying case. The internal battery is robust. The display and touchscreen are bright and flawless. The internal software is intuitive.
Everything about this meter screams professionalism and precision. It is already my gold standard.

Really awesome PAR and PPFD spectrometer. Works as a handheld and hooks up to your computer. Installed the drivers and now the software app controls the spectrometer through a USB cord.
S/W has great output in two forms. First, a well designed report with color spectrum chart. Second, a CSV file that can open in excel. It reports 1nm spectrum distribution of both PPF Data (umol/m2/s) and Spectrum Data(mW/m2/nm), which can then be turned into custom graphs. See attached photos for samples of both the report and a CSV file.
Very sturdy build and nice responsive display. Has standard threads for a camera-shoe mount (1/4-20, which means ¼", with 20 threads per inch).
