Palouse Brand Green Split Peas in the Resealable Kraft Bag are quite tasty and cook up deliciously in crock pot soup.

I got the four pound bag because split pea soup is one of my husband's favorite dishes. I did notice that there was a choice between a resealable kraft bag, a cotton bag or a burlap bag for larger amounts. I chose the kraft bag because the price per pound was less and I planned to empty them into an airtight container anyway.

Unfortunately, it turned out not to be the most economical choice since a kraft bag is subject to punctures when packed with other items. Losing a portion of the contents makes this choice less economical, so for my next order, I definitely will choose the cotton bag.

Palouse Brand Green Split Peas are tasty and are not irradiated. They are also non-GMO verified and a product of the USA.

Everything I've tried from Palouse Farms has been great. They are good quality at reasonable prices. The 4lb bag of split peas are probably our favorite. They make an excellent and healthful soup. I keep meaning to try other recipes with them but my family loves the soup so much I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I do not give out 5-star ratings often, but these really are top notch products. I found them for the first time because of shortages during the COVID pandemic, but if they can maintain the same value (quality:price ratio) I will be a customer for life.

Makes the best split pea soup I have ever had. 1 cup peas, 2 cups water, 1 hour, soup! I add 2 bay leaves and 2 tablespoons of low sodium soup base. I also add a bag of baby carrots. In perfecting my recipe, I have put the carrots into the water first with the soup base and boiled for about 10 minutes, otherwise they are still firm at the end of the simmer. Do keep an eye on the soup for the last 20 minutes or so of cooking. Sometimes the liquid absorbs very fast, other times, a bit watery, but then it absorbs in once it is sitting. Definitely the best tasting AND 1 cup plus the carrots makes 2 plastic chinese food containers of soup. Yum!!!

The packaging was really beat up, although there were no obvious holes in the paper. These green split peas are probably very tasty, but I have not tried them yet; I bought them for my back-up emergency food supplies. However, one thing the description details do not discuss is the shelf life; the packaging says the expiration is 03/2023, or three years from my purchase date. I intend to punch a few small holes in the heavy duty paper bag packaging and put them in a food saver bag and vacuum the air out of them. I then expect the shelf life to be at least six years (or longer), although I have no proof of that. Vacuum packing seems to substantially extend the shelf life for rice, so I hope it will work for peas. I hope this is helpful to people.

I tried these to have around to make fresh soup and the taste is very good. The peas are all very green and small giving them a sweet taste and them being GMO free the flavor explodes. My first pot when from reg split pea soup to one infused with a little bacon fat for flavor ( out of ham bones) and adding some different rubs to give it maple and mesquite layers. I had a hard time stopping. Made fresh bread to go with the soup now so sure I will now need to try their lentils tomorrow!
