This compass is heavy duty and would withstand any amount of abuse one might dish out. The only slight complaint I have is that the opening for a pencil is smaller than the diameter of most pencils or pens. You might have to find a pencil that is thinner than average or carve one down to size. For my purposes, I used the sharp points that are on both legs of the compass to etch a line onto metal and wood surfaces. For using it that way, I would buy it again.

I went through all my pencils and markers trying to find anything that would fit into the pencil holder part of the compass. Not one standard pencil would fit....the holder is too small.
I finally found a very old worn out pencil that I was able to force into the holder. This product needs more flexibility built into the holder so it can adapt to a variety of sizes. All my other compasses allow for some variance in pencil or marking tool size.
The compass is also very tight, so trying to adjust to a very specific size takes some doing.

It's ginormous (!!) and very sturdy but hard to carry around. I use protractors for drawing, but this isn't something I can toss in my pencil case, and it's a bit too heavy duty for drawing on certain papers. It seems like it's more so made for construction material like wood.
The pencil holder is small and not very adjustable, so none of my prefereed pens fit in it. I'm pretty sure TSA would take it because the pointy edges too, so don't try taking it on a plane!
It isnt great for me. But it's a great buy if you're a professional, or otherwise need a heavy duty compass tool or a home defense weapon. Lol!
