Great converter! Be aware is not an upscaler
Beth✓ Verified Purchase•February 22, 2024
This is a great converter, the quality of video output is comparable but slightly better than on an old tube TV. I have this on a larger 4K TV and am very happy with it. Just be aware that this is not an up-scaler and that is mentioned in the details of this product. In terms of simplicity I love how this doesn't require an external power supply like many of the others.
Great product and great price!

Plug and Play and Works ALMOST Flawlessly

Plug it into your Xbox, plug the HDMI into your TV or Receiver and your basically done. 1080i,720p, and 480p all worked without issue.
Couple of things. I was only able to get Digital PCM 2.0 sound out of this adapter. So no 5.1 or DTS.
More importantly, games that do not support HD resolutions won't display until you turn off the HD resolutions in the system settings. Once you do, they'll display at 480i without issue. I think my Official HD Component Cables displayed those games without adjusting system settings, but this thing doesn't play as nice with the digital conversion or whatever.
All you have to do is turn those video settings off in system settings when using 480i games and they'll work. Then you can turn those settings back on when you're done with those particular games. Games I tried that this affected were Panzer Dragoon Orta and Tony Hawk 3.
So loses 1 star for that video inconvenience and not being able to get 5.1 sound out of the device. Still digital Stereo sounds good.

I loved that this product did NOT require any power connection; while it clearly says it does not improve the picture quality (and I know this should be the case) I originally had this hooked up directly into a component input on the TV itself but the input no longer worked so hence this adapter. In any case after hooking it up (easily done) even my wife said "that's a much better picture than before!!" She does not usually notice things like that in the "electronic world" but is correct on this one. I have installed my own home theater so I am no stranger to electronics & their quirks, problems, & overall quality. However like so many things your results may differ but I rate this product as excellent overall. Also FYI the seller seems to really care about his business & the quality of customer service that he/she provides. A great experience from start to finish!
Works great as long as you set your AV Receiver correctly

*Please pardon my dusty AV Receiver as it is my old one I use in my garage.*
This works exactly as intended but it took me half a day to get my av receiver to work correctly with it.
I noticed some reviews said the 5.1 optical out did not work and only output sterk so this was one of the first things I checked. I hooked up the optical cable, assigned it to my correct slot on the receiver then turned it on. Sure enough, it was only stereo. This doesnt make sense because I know how the old HD Av pack works with the optical surround sound.
It turns out 99% of av receivers have a hierarchy when it comes to their audio options ; HDMI>Optical>RCA.
Even if you have the optical assigned to the correct slot it still wants to read the audio via HDMI which in this case is always stereo. I had to override this on my amp via the Digital Input button. Once I switched it to Optical *BOOM* I got my dolby digital.

I had just recieved the item today due to my previous component-based setup was no longer a viable option due to a new monitor. I had switched to the adapter and was unable to get a signal. I checked the cables and it turns out that the HDMI wasn't plugged in all the way. As far as I could tell, the picture was indistinguishable from the previous component output and am glad I have made such an investment to my current layout.
Still have not as of yet tried the optical audio but I can only presume that it is akin.
