Great valure for the money

This was a gift for a friend I know little about cellos but she was thrilled with it. we had a bit of trouble setting it up partly because the notches in the bridge were not cut deep enough to retain the strings, but five minutes fixed that. The only other trouble was with the rosin, the top of it was too smooth and wouldn't transfer to the bow. A couple of minutes scratching the surface of the rosin fixed that one and she was off playing.
Beautiful but...

So, this cello is beautiful first off!
But we had no idea you had to put on the bridge yourself??!!! Umm!? I've never done anything like it but watched a ton of youtube videos and followed along with one and Bout 30mins I had it on... i really dont recommend a complete novice do this but knowing our closest shop to have it done is over an hour away and it's just for my 12yr old to play over the summer for school i wasnt to worried. Now i need someone to tune it! Anyway, it is a beautiful instrument and my son says it feels great. The bow that it comes with does suck though and I'd definitely get your hand on a different one. Over all I give it 5stars for the money and all it includes its definitely worth it!
Impressed for the price, first cello

I thought this was just going to be a toy, but it sounds great! My very first cello. Actually I think for under $200 it was a great deal, looks good, light, everything works. It was easy to put together, I didn't need instructions, just commons sense. I have no experience to compare with but for a beginner I am happy. Came with a case, bow, 1 rosin, all the basic essentials. I don't like how the case requires one to insert the top part thereby hitting all the tuning pegs so when you pull it out it is has to be tuned. Zipper isn't all the way around the top part. Soft case design flaw. I don't travel much so no big deal. My next one is going to have a hard case.
a smart purchase for a beginner

Google how to set up a new cello and how to properly tighten the strings before being discouraged when they loosen over time. You should take the pegs out, add some peg oil to expand the wood, re-attach the strings and the peg is less likely to unwind its self. This is no surprise for a cello at this price. I find it in excellent condition for a beginner.

I've played different kinds of cellos ranging from $5,000 to broken school cello. This one isn't too bad. Considering that most entry level cellos begin around the $400 range, it's a good deal. The craftsmanship of the cello is ok, from far away it looks really good, but then you get closer, and you can see drip marks from the paint or lacquer. The bow is cheap, but better than nothing. Moving on to the bridge, you will have to file down the grooves where the strings sit, and you will have to fit it on the instrument (just watch a YouTube video). The tone of the instrument is very harsh and aggressive and requires good bow angle and pressure. It also doesn't resonate too well, it almost sounds too sharp. Over all, this instrument it really good for beginners to try if they are unsure if they want to continue playing the cello. If you're past the beginner stage, spend the extra money for an entry level cello
