This is a fabulous shower chair, incredibly well built and beautifully designed. I took a chance on an unreviewed product because the company's website and you tube videos impressed me. They make a variety of high end equipment well regarded by professional PTs (all of which is a lot more expensive than this new model).

While it's designed for travel, I'm using this shower chair permanently at home. I'm fortunate to have an extra large shower so leave the chair as-is in between uses but the fact that it easily folds to fit smaller spaces (and for that matter disassembles easily and quickly) should be a major plus for many families.

I managed to misplace the very clear assembly instructions during unboxing, yet still put it together in 3 minutes flat. It feels rock solid and handles like a dream.

To my surprise, even with Mom in the chair it glides over the medium shag carpet in my bedroom. The wheel locks are intuitive and completely trustworthy. The wheels move so well that even on a level surface, locking is important when entering / exiting.

The seat is substantially padded and while waterproof, is not especially slippery. The footrests have so much grip that I put wash clothes over them when Mom is barefoot to protect tender feet.

The footrests are the best part. They are uber functional because you have 3 options for entry / exit:
1) you can remove the footrest assembly entirely - this is easy, fast, and does not impact the stability of the chair,
2) the footrests can remain inserted but (when unlocked and lifted just slightly) swing entirely out of the way,
3) the footrest supports can be in forward position with just the footplate in a vertical position.

If your shower is tight, removing the footrests entirely is a decent option as the seat is not so high as to cause most people's feet to dangle uncomfortably (depending on person's height of course). Mom is 6' 4" and while seated can rest her toes and the ball of her feet (not her heels) on the floor.

The cutout in the seat is generous, making it easy to thoroughly clean genital and perineal areas using a hand held shower attachment with no contortions or fall risk.

This flexibility of the footrests is really crucial for us and has more value than just space-saving and easy entry/exit. People living with dementia often need the tactile reassurance of a chair against their thighs to be persuaded to sit down, (because they cannot see the chair when they are standing in front of it, so it ceases to exist in their mind.)

Mom has advanced dementia and, like so many American women, also a history of sexual assault. With her feet on the footrests they are a bit heavy but still easy enough to unlock, raise slightly, and swing slowly outwards like at a gynecologists office. This is an unobtrusive way to separate her knees - something she will not do herself - to permit a thorough cleaning, and is definitely preferable to touching her thighs which used to make her feel more vulnerable right at that critical moment in the bathing process.

This chair has done wonders to protect my back and improve my Mom's shower experience. It makes dealing with bowel incontinence something I no longer dread. I highly recommend it!

This really is one of the best purchases that I've ever made on Amazon. My independent 96 yr old father got pneumonia, was hospitalized and came home from rehab no longer able to ambulate. We use this chair as a bedside commode in case I need to run out. But more importantly we use it as a bathroom commode as I can wheel dad over the existing bathroom toilet and then wheel him back out when he is finished. It is also being used as his in-house wheelchair as I can wheel him from room to room and he can even sit at the table now and eat breakfast. It is also a shower chair. This chair is so sturdy, moves easily and turns on a dime. I can even turn dad around in the bathroom. This chair has been a life saver for the both of us and has helped me to manage my father at home.

This item is worth every penny and because it is a multi use item it actually saves you money in the long run. I've been taking care of my elderly father for a few years now and through his decline we've needed to make changes and add geriatric items to help assist him. I really wish I knew about the shower buddy chair years ago. I would have saved so much money. My father is now almost 94 and can't even walk a few feet with his walker to get to his bathroom so with this new chair I can lift him out of bed and wheel him right to the toilet then straight to the shower. No more need for the handicap chair rail around the toilet (which is terrible with company because I have to hide everything) and I was able to get rid of the raised toilet seat and the shower chair. This is a game changer for all of us in the house actually and because it's only one item, it takes up less space! Also makes life so much easier for the caregiver we have during the day because it's become a safety hazard for one person to lift him and walk with him to the bathroom. He was needing two people now but with this shower buddy we can wheel him everywhere; even acts as a transfer chair so we don't need the wheelchair anymore either. He's in hospice care at home and doesn't need to leave the house so we gave up the wheelchair. This item is very easy to put together; actually is mostly put together already. It's also very light weight. My favourite part is the rubber caster wheels w/ locks. I've seen many chairs with a lot of metal or aluminum which is terrible for the shower because it corrodes too quickly. All the materials are very well made. Thank you to the company and for the quality of this item. It's going to last a long time. Wish I had this 3 years ago. You know you're middle aged when you get excited about your parents new geriatric chair lol!

This is a really nice, well made piece of equipment. I don't know why though everytime I put my daughter on it and she urinates it always goes on the floor on the left side. I have tried to reposition her and it still happens. I never had any problems with other brands. The only thing I can think of is the size of the hole. I am going to try to put her old seat on it to see if that works. Are there different size seats for these? Again I love this chair.
