Fun to build. Most time consuming part was finishing the wood and very pleased with the results. Very playable but a bit neck-heavy as the Phoenix wood (Paulownia) of the body is quite porous and therefore light. My only other issue is that one of the volume knobs must be turned all the way up or you won't hear two of the strings.
Fun activity! Recieved as a Dad's Day gift

I had NEVER done anything like this before and had no idea. I am an armature bassist, so I am familiar with the instrument and typically do my own set ups and maintenance on the basses. This was a reach for me. I have never done any kind of wood finishing, ever. So thanks you YouTube and some blog posts I decided to use a grain filler to highlight the grain, then do a purple translucent stain with a Tung oil finish. I then used wet sanding, polishing compound and good old car wax. The result was beautiful! For the neck I used boiled linseed oil and fret board oil. I also had the head stock cleaned up and corners rounded some.
The pickups were crap, along with the strings (as expected) so i found some used pickups from a large mass auction site and boom! We have a booming bass!
I had a black pick guard from another bass laying around here along with the chrome pickup and bridge covers. It also has a Fender standard bridge. The bolting pattern was identical to standard Fender.
Pictures are before and after. Yes, I assembled it and then took it all apart again. The entire activity took about a month.

Sounds and plays great! Cheap Fun Project

Packaging was scary, pieces everywhere. Could have been delivery's fault. It was a fun project! It was cheap and fun to build! The maple neck and rosewood fret board is alone worth the money. Take your time and enjoy the project.
