My old tree stand broke it had a solid piece of plastic that held the tree securely in place. I trimmed that piece to install in the new tree stand. I cut the piece in two pieces and placed one inside the top and one inside the bottom of the new stand cylinder. By doing this I made a very secure base for the tree. My tree had a bottom stem of 3/4"'( An artificial tree about 5 feet tall}.
