Good way to test ESP32-WROOM-32D and ESP32-WROOM-32E modules
V87✓ Verified Purchase•February 5, 2024
Pretty simple. Just plug in the bare ESP32-WROOM-32D/E module and go into Arduino IDE and start plugging away. Just set the board manager to ESP32 Dev Module and that's it. It did take me a moment to realize the ESP32-WROOM-32 module snaps in by pushing all the way down (I thought I was going to break it), but that is how it works. Good news, it doesn't use a Chinese CH340 serial to uart, but instead ops for a CP2104 and a dual 2N7002D dual MOSFET for programming. Overall, pretty good.
This is the future of ESP dev boards

There are a bunch of esp32 modules available, and they don't all come with devkits. Just order some modules from digikey and pop them in here and you're good to go with any module. 16MB ram? no problem Need PSRAM? no problem. These are great. The pins are surprisingly sturdy, and mine came with a little plastic carrying case which is ideal for travel.
Love these.
Love these.
Came in with a few bent pins
BitSavant✓ Verified Purchase•January 25, 2024
The unit I received had a few bent pins and the spring loops on the back of the unit were touching.
I had to spend about 30 minutes carefully straightening those pins and separating the spring loops with a couple of tweezers and now it works great.
I would buy this again but it would be nice if they had better quality control.

Worked for me

I received this unit loose in a static bag. The fixture had a piece of foam to protect the pin side.
Yup, a few of the spring pins were bent to the left/right, but the base of the spring wires were straight, so I carefully snapped my ESP32 module into the fixture and the spring pins straightened right up and are staying straight.
Loaded wled, wifiscan via Arduino IDE and all seems to be working.
There is an on/off switch. ON is UP. The 5v pin was ON whether the switch was on or off.
Unscrewed the acrylic base and cleaned off the leftover flux on the top and bottom. Also looked better when I took off the base's protective stickers.
Was a good price. Would but again.
Correction: Came in a nice protective plastic storage box. I mixed up the packaging with the DOIT model I also purchased. Both worked.
