First up: I'm taking away one star, this adapter connects to a power tool battery that is designed to deliver over 200A of peak current and this adapter does not include a fuse! If one of the buck regulators inside of this thing malfunction and shorts the battery terminals, then there is nothing to prevent the whole thing from catching fire.
Now, coming to the good parts of the design here:
The adapter draws around 0.003A of quiescent current from the battery when light and USB are turned off. With a fully charged 5AH battery, this adapter can be left connected to it for over 6 months without draining the battery towards damage.
It turns off the light and the two USB outputs when battery voltage falls below 16V. So, low battery protection actually works well. Remember -- none of the M18 batteries include a fuse or output cutoff mechanism when the battery current is dangerously high or when the battery voltage is low. So, low battery voltage protection feature is super important here. Once the USB and light output gets turned off due to low battery voltage, it stays that way even if the battery voltage recovers by itself.
The USB-A output is well regulated and within 5.11V - 4.90V.
In terms of build quality - I did see some subpar solder work, but no dealbreakers here. They have used through-hole connectors for USB-A and USB-C interfaces, which are more robust compared to cheaper surface mount ones. The LED lamp module uses a tiny heat sink, which should help with any heat dissipation and help longevity.
Overall, this adapter is one of the better designed ones out there. I would have given 5 star rating if they had designed a fuse into the battery interface.
