I use this Mat at my fly tying bench. It's grippy, it has an edge to keep things from rolling away, it's got holes to stick tools in and the little tray holes in the top are magnetic which is nice for holding hooks and razors. It also has a ruler running along to top which is nice for getting quick measurements. I was going to buy a bead mat or something from hareline but I actually think this mat is way more useful. It also makes it easy to move where I'm tying (if I want to move over to the coffee table or something). Also when it's dirty you can just pick it up and shake it out into the trash. Or run a lint roller across it to get it really clean. Super useful for fly tiers or really anyone crafty.

I have had a few of these types of silicone mats as they are indispensable when dealing with hot soldering irons and heat guns, especially when working on a plastic work surface such as with my current setup.
I've had a few of the blue mats but never a black one. Who cares about the color really, and I'm no different just as long as it does its job well. However, seeing as how my work surface is all black these days, I figured "Why Not?" Well, I'm happy to say it works great and it doesn't stick out like a smurf drowning in black ink on my bench like the blue mats I've had in the past.
Bottom line is these mats work well and these were the cheapest on Amazon at the time of this review. Excellent!
