We bought this product to keep our chicken's water from freezing in our harsh, cold Minnesota winters. Mid winter it can easily get to -20°F. But our water tank was already freezing solid at the beginning of winter at temps of only 20°F ABOVE zero! NOW with this heater the water stays liquid AND it gives off a little extra heat for the coop!

Update: doesn't work when under 10 degrees outside. Similar inside the coop (not mine, but I take care of the chickens),& it doesn't work to -10 degrees F. Extended periods of cold weather below 20 degrees, not effective. Like another reviewer said, the top freezes solid, which makes sense.
Just hooked it up, because we had some freezing temperatures. So far, so good,& I hope it continues to work well. Winter has just started & its not too bad, low temperature wise, so the real test is yet to come
