FLAMMA FV02 Doubling and FV03 Character Vocal Pedals
LR✓ Verified PurchaseJuly 31, 2023
The Flamma FV02 Doubling and FV03 Character pedals are very useful pedals that can inspire creativity and fun! Each provides its own unique spin on vocal alteration. With the FV02 Doubling, you can double your voice or have an ensemble of you. Or, you can add a pitch shifted version of yourself, either as a baby voice or an octave down voice, or both! The FV02 gives a chorusing effect. With the FV03 Character, the first setting pitches your voice a tritone down, perfect for a horror vocal voiceover. Or, you can pitch your voice up an octave to female or baby timbres. Or, you can have a vocoded robot drone in three varieties and sing a melody over it. The Blend knob will allow you to blend your natural voice in as much as you like. Both pedals can add reverb to your vocals, available in three types, which all sound very nice. Both pedals have a nice option of disabling only the vocal mode effect (indicator around switch turns red) while keeping the reverb, or double click to turn both effects off (unlit). The guitar input is designed to give your guitar a little bit of reverb shimmer and works best with an acoustic-electric or clean electric sound, but you could certainly run your guitar into a distortion pedal then into the Doubling if you wanted some distortion. I wouldn't distort your sound after the doubler because you'll want to keep the reverb clean and crisp. One tip: Don't let your input signal be too hot. I had the best results using an external mic preamp with output volume set fairly low. With this setup, you would switch the XLR input to line. The other useful option is just to plug your mic directly into the pedal. I used a good dynamic mic and set the gain about halfway on the Doubling and 2/3 on the Character. Use a small flathead screwdriver to turn the gain knob. Be careful not to set the input gain too high or you will get a very loud, nasty squeal back! The enclosures seem sturdy, and I love the vibrant colors! All in all, these are nice pedals that can add some creative effects once you learn how to use them.
Nine outta ten...

The tracking of the input vocal is amazing. The ability to easily switch harmony option is easy/quick. The pedal fits easily on a mic stand.
I cannot wait to take it out to a gig.
I do see one issue...
The pedal is supposed to support a pass-thru option (clean signal) for the mic via the foot switch. My pedal is not doing so. For live performance, will mean always having a dedicated mic (I'd kinda planned to anyway for backing myself up) and then one other for guest vocalists.
I've not had luck with support (chat is below and will update if I get a response).

Just purchased "FLAMMA FV04 Harmony Vocal Processor". It seems to be 'always on'. The main footswitch will change the 'Sharp' option, but there is no 'pass-thru' of the mic signal as the guide indicates.
5:00 PM
Guide says this: "When the FV04 is on, press the footswitch twice quickly to turn off both harmony and reverb effects, the footswitch LED will turn off."
5:04 PM
Pressing twice does nothing. Press hold enables/disables sharp mode.
There is no 'hidden' mode with 'yellow' led either...

UPDATED
I found the pass-thru:
With Red/Natural option selected (surprised this is not the default when the unit is powered up - 'Sharp/Blue' is default), a short pause and second click/press will enable the pass-thru.
Posted a noted to the support site:
For product improvement, I would have Natural (vs # / Sharp) be the default option.
Great backing vocals.

Firstly, I'm not a singer. Nope, not even karaoke.
I picked this box up so I could attempt to sing while playing bass or guitar. I have always hated the way my recorded/amplified voice sounds. I want to get over that.

This said, I had a blast using this box. I was able to "sing with myself" or an octave up or down. For me that took the focus away from my solo voice and allowed me to sing. -That is just a bonus of this effects pedal for me.

The features are many, and the tones are great. Five different tones, three reverb effects, three tones (off, warm, bright), and the ability to blend the effect with your voice signal. That doesn't include the option of running your guitar through the box for reverb as well.

And something that is becoming more rare... the pedal comes with a power adapter. Yes, really!
The output is 9v 1.5a center negative. It is nice for the vocalist that doesn't have a guitar pedalboard and power supply.

In all this is a great little box that works great. It lets me sing without having to focus on my solo voice, until I'm ready to do that. This pedal and a mic will start coming out whenever I pick up my guitar.
I still make Dylan, Petty, and Claypool sound like Pavarotti, but I'll find my style soon enough.
Does the job

This small effects package allows the performer / vocalist to add a little "fine tuning" enhancement. It adds variable types of reverb, some tone enhancement, and pitch control. The pitch correction feature is not radical or intrusive, it is for the times when you are not quite "on". It adjusts to the nearest pure tone so if you are actually too sharp if will move up to the next higher note, much too flat it will drop you down to a lower note. A bad note is still a bad note, but if you are close this will make it perfect.
It would be better to have just not included some features.

I think this is an excellent idea, and the price point is where it should be. If you want to had soft of hard chromatic autotune to your vocals in a live setting, this will do it great. Unfortunately, I don't think this belongs on a guitar board though, as it is just a little unwieldy, and most powersupplies will not provide the amperage it requires.

So that said, there are things that need addressing because there are a ton of other features. My biggest issues with the product are the extra things, ie the delay, and multi mode input.

The delays are fine totally. Like they do the job, but the controls for setting level, or the tap tempo are less than user friendly, and I am someone who reads manuals. The one in the box had nothing for me. I looked up the one online, and it is not any better. I've since figured it out, but only out of spite.

The multi mode is misleading. Infact, having an instrument line through at all is not great for this. Trying to find the perfect balance of gain for each input is a wildly infuriating task because it is very easy to start clipping one of the two signals as they are dependent gain settings as far as I can tell. The ground lift, and phantom power definitely effect the instrument line. Which means your instrument is going to be much too loud, and clip, well before you can hear your vocals. My suggestion is to use one input at a time, or keep them separate by using the other mode. Probably the vocals.

To end on a high note, the reverbs are actually pretty solid, and easy to dial in either a subtle or washed out sound.

Over all, a very medium pedal.
