I took it straight from the box, put it on my passenger door latch and stood on it. At 6' 3", I weigh just over 230 pounds and it held my weight without a problem. Very sturdy and I towered over the top of the car which will be important if you want to access everything on both sides with no problem.
You can take it off and put it on any door you want but I could access everything from just one point. I can see why this would be super important to have for a passenger car or a truck. If you happen to have a lot of stuff on your roof or a rooftop tent it is pretty amazing..
